    Muhammad ibn Abdullah is born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. His father, Abd Allah bin Al-Muttalib, died before he was born. His mother, Amina bint Wahb entrusted a wet nurse named Halima to raise him, which was Meccan tradition.

    Mother's Death
    Muhammad's mother dies when he is about six years old. His paternal grandfather, Abdul al-Muttalib, takes him in. He is a respected leader who presided over Mecca's Council of Elders, and Muhammad learned the basics of statesmanship from him.

    First Revelation
    While on one of his long retreats to a mountain cave outside Mecca, he was visted by the archangel Gabriel, who was sent by Allah. Gabriel instructed Muhammad to recite words, which later became the first five lines of chapter 96 in the Quran.

    Muhammad and a few hundred followers leave Mecca to escape persecution. They go the oasis town of Yathrib, where his father was buried. The town was facing a civil war, and Muhammad was welcome to act as their mediator. Yathrib soon was called Medina, the City of the Prophet.

    Conquest of Mecca
    After years of battles with Meccans, Muhammad and the Muslims gained more and more power. In January of 630 A.D., the marched to Mecca, with several tribes joining them along the way. The Meccans, seeing how Muhammad had gained so much power and influence, finally joined them without bloodshed.

    Muhammad's Death
    After the conquest of Mecca, Muhammad moved back to Medina to live. He only returned back to Mecca one last time in 632 for his final pilgrimage. He was joined by tens of thousands of Muslims. After returning back to Medina, on June 8, 632, he died due to illness. He was buried in the mosque in Medina.

    Khadija is impressed by Muhammad's honesty and good character. She proposes marriage. They marry when he was 25, and she was almost 40 years old. They lhad a prosperous life, and had two sons, both of whom died during infancy, and four daughters.

    Khadijah, Muhammad's wife, dies. His uncle, Abu Talib, dies shortly after. Finally, the leaders of Mecca attempted to assassinate Muhammad for trying to spread Islam.

    Teen's and Young Adulthood

    In his early youth, Muhammad would follow his uncle driving caravans to trade centers. He began to be recognized for his honesty, and older merchants gave him the nickname El-Amin, meaning the one you can trust. Later, in his early twenties, he began to work for his distant cousin, Khadija, who was an older, wealthy Meccan widow. She was also a merchant, and Muhammad deliver goods for her.
