    Wheatley was very well educated for a house slave. She was treated very well by her owners and execelled in poetry, Latin, and Greek.

    Wheatley's first poem is published by the financial aid of her owner, Susanna, being the first African-American and slave to publish a poem.

    She died in Boston, Massachusetts on December 5th, 1784. She was 31 years old and her infant son died 3 ½ hours later after her death.
