  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    A large group of the Sons of Liberty, disguised as Indians, boarded three East India Trade ships. The ships were carrying 45 tons of tea, which was dumped into Boston Harbor by the Sons of Liberty. They were protesting the Tea Act, which was a tax on the tea that the colonists purchased.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were a set of laws that closed Boston Harbor, canceled the Massachusetts charter, and gave Canada control over the Ohio region. These acts also allowed quartering of British troops in the colonies. In result the colonists recommended large-scale boycotts.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress met in autumn 1774 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were a group of 56 colonial delegates. They debated the best way to respond to the Boston Massacre. In the end, they recommended that colonists continued boycotting British goods but to be prepared to fight.

    Lexington and Concord
    British troops were sent to Concord to capture Samuel Adams and John Hancock. Both men had been warned previously of their pending capture, because on the night of April 18, Paul Revere rode through Concord, warning everyone about the British attack.

    The Second Continental Congress meet in the State House in Philadelphia. They met soon after the Battle of Lexington and Concord. They established the Continental Army to represent the Thirteen States.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga was a British fort in northeastern New York. The Americans attacked and captured the sleeping British in the Fort on May 10, 1775. It was the first victory of the Revolutionary War.

  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    Benjamin Franklin and thomas Jefferson led a committee to write a document declaring independence from Britain. The document expressed three main ideas: first, that all men possess unalienable rights. Second, that King George had violated the rights of the colonists with his actions, and lasts, that he had failed to protect the rights of his citizens. The document was approved on July 4, 1776, severing all ties with the British Crown.

    The Battle of Long Island (Capture of New York)
    After the seige of Boston, George Washington brought the Continental Army to defend New York City. There the army waited for British attack. On August 22, the British landed on Long Island. After five days of waiting, they attacked the American defenses. Another British army was coming around behind the American troops. The Americans saw this and panicked. The British settled down for a seige, but Washington evacuated his troops off of Long Island.

    Battle of Princeton
    The Continental Army and two British regiments clashed on the night of January 2. The continental army was overrun ad sent for help from George Washington who was in Princeton. Washington came and rallied the retreating army.

    The Battle of Yorktown
    This battle happened when Cornwallis wanted to move into Virginia. He wanted to attack. The redcoatrs pushed out the brigade. Clinton ordered cornwalllis to build of a fort that couldn't be destroyed.The redcoats seized the fort and destroyed it.

    This treaty was a big impact on the war because it ended it. The treaty of Paris proclaimed America as its own country.
