  • Decembrist Revolt

    Decembrist Revolt
    -3000 soldiers went on a protest against Nicolas I after he took the throne when his brother resided
    -They were called the Decemberists because of the time the protest took place in
    -Even though the protesters initally failed, they did bring some change to the empire. Also many of the Decemberists were executed
    -This was the event thought to set of a chain reaction of revolutions in Russia
  • Emancipation of the Serfs

    Emancipation of the Serfs
    -Meant that serfs had basic rights. Serfs now were allowed to have full rights as free citizens, could marry without the usual consent, own property, and even own bussinesses
    -Peasants were allowed to buy land from the landlords now
    -The outcomes took awhile to become useful. Most serfs were free, but now had no land.
    -The state owned serfs took an extra five years, but they recieved better and larger amounts of land
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    -Peaceful, unarmed demonstraters went to protest Nicolas II in St. Petersburg, and they were massacred by the Imperial Guard
    -The event triggered problems for the Tsar, and in return people lost respect for the state
    -The protesters were workers and their families, and they were singing religious hyms
    -96 killed, 333 injured
  • Revolution of 1905

    Revolution of 1905
    -Showed the anger rising in the Russian people
    -Civil unrest toward the government began with strikes from workers, terrorism, and military issues
    -The constitution of 1906 was established because of these events as well as a new multi-party system
  • Russia Enters WWI

    Russia Enters WWI
    -Entered as the largest army in the world as 5 million strong
    -Could not arm all of their soldiers
    -Germany declared war on them after they mobilized
    -Suffered tremendous losses that included 4 million prisioners taken, and 2.5 million killed in war
  • Rasputin Murdered

    Rasputin Murdered
    -Rasputin was a man who helped the royal family with healing and predictions. He was seen as a scoundral from the royal family, as well as the peasants
    -Members of the aristocracy decided to save the monarchy by killing him one night, but killing him turned out to be a job in itself
    -The man was found to have died from water in his lungs, after he lived after being shot three times, and posioned to a very great extent
  • March Revolution

    March Revolution
    -90,000 textile workers went on strike during the war because they were angry about a shortage of food and fuel
    -Just by the end of the week there were 400,000 protesters
    -This revolution was when the Tsar and his family was captured and then eventually executed
  • Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates

    Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates
    -Signified the end of his rule
    -He left his nation in ruins in terms of the economy and the military
    -People disliked him for entering the world war, and it led to his downfall only three years later
  • Bolshevik Revolution

    Bolshevik Revolution
    -Was a response because peasants were upset at the huge World War I losses and deaths of so many peasants due to the government
    -The revolution was lead by Lenin
    -Also known as the October Revolution which is responsible for the founding of the USSR
  • Murder of the Romanovs

    Murder of the Romanovs
    -The Romanov family was killed in St. Petersburg due the the revolution and civil war that was occuring
    -They had to be killed because they were still the technical rulers of Russia, and people were still going to rally for them
    -3 servents, the family doctor, and the entire family were killed by bullets and bayonets. Some people believe the two youngest children of the family escaped somehow and lived from the execution
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    -The "Big Three" created the treaty and those nations included America, France, and Britian
    -The treaty created the League of nations
    -Germany lost much of it's military, and Western Germany wasn't allowed to have military at all.
  • Stalin Takes Power/Death of Trotsky

    Stalin Takes Power/Death of Trotsky
    -Took the power after Lenin died in 1924, but did not have total power
    -Grigory Zinoviev and Lev Kamenev were the other thirds of the power train
    -He was able to discard the other powers in 1929 so he was able to take over
  • Lenin Dies/USSR formed

    Lenin Dies/USSR formed
    -Lenin was killed from natural causes (a stroke)
    -December 30, 1922 was the day the USSR was established
    -Stalin was the person to take over power next
