    Nicolaus Copernicus' Theory

    During the early 1500s, Nicolaus Copernicus abandoned Ptomely's theory. Instead, he began to think that the sun was the center of the universe. This theory was called the helliocentric or "sun-centered" theory. His theory was published in 1543.
