The Seven Visitation Martyrs

By MWetsel
  • Martyrdom

Saint Jane de Chantal calls this martyrdom of love or the martyrdom of everyday. Of course, there is also the traditional martyrdom of the body, where a person gives up his or her own life as an imitation of Christ’s love for us all on the Cross.
  • Their death

The following seven sisters were martyred during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, all of them belonging to the Visitation Monastary in Madrid. The oldest was 56 years old while the youngest was just 26 years old. It was early 1936 when the religious persecution in the Spanish Civil War was becoming more frequent.
