    Elizabeth 1 (1558-1603)

    Queen Elizabeth I came to the throne after several upheavals of reformation. As her position was not secure she tried to please majority of the people.
  • James 1 (1603-1625)

    James I was the cousin of Elizabeth 1. He was a Stuart and believed in the divine rights of the king.
  • Charles 1 (1625-1649)

    James 1 was succeeded by his son Charles 1. Charles 1 had dismissed parliament and also fought war with parliament
  • The long parliament (1640)

    The long parliament was dominated by the strict protestants called Puritans.
  • The civil war (1642-1649)

    Charles 1 left england to raise an army to fight against parliament. Parliament under their leader Oliver Cromwell raised an army and fights were fought across the england
  • The commonwealth (1649-1660)

    The members of puritan dominated the parliament soon a stricter group gained control and closed all entertainments. The people became miserable and of was a strong movement to restore monarchy.
