The Twisted Window by Lois Duncan -- Madelyn Kersten

  • Event 1 -- Where it All Starts

Event 1 -- Where it All Starts
In the beginning of this book, Tracy Lloyd is the main character. She has been living with her aunt and uncle in Winfield, Texas ever since her mom passed away from being mugged on her way home one night. Her dad continued his career as an actor in Europe even though he wanted custody for the longest time. She goes to a brand new school with brand new friends and starts to notice that she's being watched. I chose this book because I love the author, Lois Duncan.
  • Event 2 -- Going to the New School

Event 2 -- Going to the New School
On Tracy's first day of school, she encounters a group of friends that she attaches herself to right away. One of her only "friends" was named Gina. Gina was known as "popular", and she thought very highly of herself. One day, Tracy peered over to the other side of the lunch room and noticed a highly attractive boy(Brad) that wouldn't keep his eyes off of her. Thinking: This reminded me of a movie that I saw before. It had the same type of feel to it with was a connection between a boy and girl.
  • Event 3 -- She's The Perfect One

    Event 3 -- She's The Perfect One
After Brad talked to Tracy for a short while at lunch that day, he knew that she was the perfect one for his job. He followed her around school while trying to talk to her at her locker or in the hallway. Eventually, he got ahold of her aunt and uncle's phone number so then he could plan a hang-out with Tracy under her consent. Thinking: This part made the impression to me that Brad found Tracy attractive in a way, and that he maybe wanted to date her.
  • Event 4 -- Someone's Watching

    Event 4 -- Someone's Watching
As the days went by, Tracy began to adjust to her routine of going to her new school and walking home every day through the local park. One evening after school, Tracy was walking home and got a gut feeling that someone was watching her. She then began to walk at a faster pace until she began to run. This continued for a few more days until she had a good idea of who this person was. Thinking: This part reminded me of a time when I thought I was being watched; I can relate to Tracy.
  • Event 5 -- Busted

    Event 5 -- Busted
Tracy was right. This mystery person who was watching her was Brad! She was confused at first, but after Brad had explain to her why he needed her help, she had agreed to help him. That evening, Brad pulled out a picture from his pocket of a young girl in a yellow dress with blonde, silky hair. Thinking: When I read this, I pictured a girl like Mindy in my head.
  • Event 6 -- Missing Sister

    Event 6 -- Missing Sister
Her name was Mindy. Brad had explained to Tracy that Mindy was abducted by his step dad who wanted full custody after a divorce with Brad's mother. Tracy immediately felt horrible about this and was willing to help Brad track down his step-dad, Gavin. The way that Brad figured out where Gavin was located was by noticing a post card to one of Gavin's relatives in Winfield, Texas. Thinking: I thought that Brad was good at finding information about people -- almost too good.
  • Event 7 -- Locating Gavin

    Event 7 -- Locating Gavin
The two began searching at an appartment building which seemed to be the place where Gavin -- with a fake name and identity -- was. Because Brad didn't want to be seen by Gavin if he were to be there, he had Tracy sneak into the appartment while a car was pulling out of a garage door. She had then found the room that Gavin could be in. She knocked on the door only to see Gavin's brother. Thinking: This made me think that Gavin's brother may be a criminal too and that Tracy was in danger.
  • Event 8 -- Picture Frame

    Event 8 -- Picture Frame
Tracy was soon greeted at the door by Gavin's brother, Doug Carver. Once she was invited in, she began to glance around the appartment room while Doug was on the cell phone with his roommate. While she was searching the rooms looking for any sign of a child's presence, she was surprised to only see adult themed bedrooms...until she saw the exact same picture that Brad had showed her laying on top of a chair. Thinking: This part made me want to read more because it was really suspenseful.
  • Event 9 -- Reporing Back to Brad

Event 9 -- Reporing Back to Brad
After visiting for a while longer, Tracy left the appartments. She had explained everything to Brad about the picture and who he was talking to, and he came up with a plan. Later that evening, Brad arrived at Tracy's aunt and uncle's house to pick her up. He brought her to a house far out in a nice neighborhood. They both got out of his car while noticing a black car pulled up into the driveway. Brad knew it was Gavin's. Thinking: This made me think of a time when I noticed cars in my driveway.
  • Event 10 -- Tracking Mindy

    Event 10 -- Tracking Mindy
Mindy was found. She was eating dinner with the Carver's at the kitchen table. Later in the book, Brad get's Tracy hired for a babysitting job so that he can sneak in and take back his sister. About 15 minutes into babysitting, Doug returns because he forgot his tickets. He gets threatened with a gun and the child is taken along with Tracy and Brad. Thinking: I thought of the times when I recieved an AMBER Alert on my cell phone for a child being stolen.
  • Event 11 -- Big Mistake

    Event 11 -- Big Mistake
While driving back to Brad's home in New Mexico, the two realised that the child that they stole was not Mindy, but Mindy's first cousin. Brad instantly refused that thought and dropped Tracy off at a restaraunt. She made a call to one of Brad's friends. She is taken to his cabin where him and "Mindy" plan to stay. Thinking: This was a surprising part of the story that changed my whole view on Brad. It was mentioned earlier in the book that he had issues as well; not being able to take things.
  • Event 12 -- Where it All Wraps Up

Event 12 -- Where it All Wraps Up
Overall, this book has a great way to wrap up at the end of the book. It did confuse me at first, but it made me think; I like that about some stories. If this were to be a movie, I think it would be worth my while to watch it. If one of my friends were to be into a suspenseful book that makes them want to read more, I'd definitely recommend this book. Not only is it suspenseful, but it has good organization throughout the book as well. Lastly, it's put into a story that could actually happen.
