  • House of un-American Activities committee

    House of un-American Activities committee
    Was created to combat the spies in America or those with ties to Communism. It showed that America was paranoid about the possibility of spies, and didn't want to risk anyone. This caused them to search every major politician and especially celebrities. This showed the tension in the U.S over Russia and the effect of the Second Red Scare.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    It was Truman's response to Russia invasion of Europe. It was kinda the beginning of the Cold War with the U.S combating Russia's continue take-over of Europe. It was the beginning of the major conflict and would cause all future Cold war events.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    Recovering Europe in protest against Communism. It basically was are way to combat communism because poor countries were falling toward it so we would rebuild them. It was what got us very invested into Europe's fight against communism because we spent so much money on it.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    Russia and the U.S had split Berlin in two territories in which both owned one. Though the problem was that Berlin was in East Germany which was Communist controlled and they wouldn't allow Western German trade to help the Democratic side of Berlin. So the U.S would airlift supplies into Berlin, this caused a lot of tension because of the risk of their planes being shot down, and the disrespect it showed Russia that we would fly into their territory to help the enemy.
  • NATO

    NATO
    NATO was the Democratic party that was created to conflict Communism, it was made up of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It would combat the Warsaw. It added to the tension because it created two sides who were against each-other and potential war threats.
  • Korean War

    North Korea invades the south and pushes it back to basically the corner. This causes the U.N to vote for whether or not they should. Because Russia didn't show up they send troops to help South Korea and push them back to Cuba almost starting WW3. This is a time of HUGE conflict and debates over whether or not we should nuke Cuba. Eventually we don't but it's one of the main reasons communist nations were scared of Capitalist nuclear arms.
  • Brinkmanship

    It was a military tactic of opposing creating many weapons and going to the brink of war to cause the other side to retreat. It didn't actually work and actually made tensions REALLY high.
  • Warsaw

    The other side of the event which was the USSR's way of combating NATO. It had basically the same effect on the cold war NATO had: Russia, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), Hungary, Poland and Romania.
  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    Eisenhower Doctrine
    In response to Hungary trying to stop being one of Russia's Satellite states and being invaded because of. Eisenhower creates a law stating that the U.S will help any nation that wants to leave Communism. This will cause future tensions in the world and more conflict between Russia and the U.S.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    The first satellite sent into space, and was sent by the Russians. It scared the U.S with the idea that they could literally send missiles from across the globe into the U.S. So it started a competition to see who could get to space and eventually a race to the moon. It kinda drifted the tension away from war, and to a competition so it in a way lowered war tension.
  • U-2 Incident

    U-2 Incident
    A spy-plane is shot out of the sky over Russia. This causes a conflict were the U.S is embarrassed to admit and eventually is guilt-ed into admitting it and trading spies for them. This causes conflict and brings us on the verge of war.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    The attempt to overthrow Decal Castro's communist dictatorship in Cuba. The U.S funded the rebels, but in the end the rebels failed to overthrow him and ended up executed. This lead to very shaky relations with Cuba, and they turned to Russia for help causing paranoia in America. This is what lead to the Cuban Missile Crisis and the closest we ever got to war.
  • Berlin Wall

    Was created in one night to separate communist East Germany from the Capitalist West Germany. It cut Berlin basally in half. It was created to stop people from leaving Communist Germany for Democratic Germany. It increased tensions just because it created a distention separation between communist and Capitalist
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    After Raul Castro took over Cuba with his communist ideals, the U.S try to fund the rebellion against him, which failed leading tension between Cuba and the U.S allowing Russia to send nukes to Cuba! This caused HUGE tension and we were literally one word from war, so it was probably the most tense 14 days in U.S history threatening the country as a whole.
  • Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty

    Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty
    It was a treaty signed between Russia and the U.S to stop all testing of nuclear weapons on land. This would hopefully mitigate nuclear weapon development and decrease tensions. Which it did decrease tension and arguably mark the decline of tension between Russia. Though Nuclear weapons would still be developed and tested over water.
