When he went to Spain in 1517, he couldn't speak any Spanish and was ignorant of Spanish affairs. While in Spain, he expanded the territorial horizons vastly. To meet the king's needs, he had to borrow money. Although, because of the expulsion of Jews, there were very few financers left to give money to Charles. He had to call German and Genoese banders which put a devastating impact on Spain's Economy. -

During the Protestant Reformation, Charles was a very good diplomat, but he couldn't put Europe together again after Martin Luther split in into two separate religious factions. -
