The Proclamation
The proclamation was from Great Britain that was made to hold the expansion past the Appalachians mountains. They did this for two reasons to keep the people from expanding and reputing the acts and laws back in place. Also they need ways to make money from having a lot of debt after the seven year war. This led to the end of the salutary neglect and brought out more harsh acts like the quartering act of 1765. -
Sugar act
This act was an actual decrease on the molasses tax and trying to stop smuggling of sugar. The colonist did not follow nor like the act from people like John Hancock who had made his business out of smuggling molasses and had a voice able to convince others not to follow the act. Also people thought of this as paying for the British government. This would lead to more people dislike the acts given from Britain but to also protest and not follow the acts given to them. -
The Quartering Act
The Quartering Act of 1765 made it so people had to allow them to come inside their house and to also take care of the soldiers like food and water. The thing that people hated was that it allowed the soldiers to take tabs on people who hate or support the king. Also people hated this act for feeling the British had invaded their privacy without any kind of "Representation on what they think about this act". This would cause a lot of conflict with the people leading to the "Boston Massacre". -
The Townshed Act
This act put many taxes on glass,wood and even other items that colonists would import to other countries. This may seem like a normal act but this was a leading cause for people to fight back. Rich colonists Samuel Adams and John Hancock began to move the other colonists with all the social and financial power. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happens when people started to attack soldier post near a building with snowball with rocks and the soldiers defended themselves killing five people. The people around were able to create a painting that angered or made their view on the British sky rocket from how the painting should how many troops fired into the crowd. In reality there were only a few troops. People began to become more weary and wanted to be heared. This was also an leading cause for Independence. -
Committees of correspondence
During the time that Samuel Adams and other radical patriots continued to warn Americans of the British empire. When the British officials threatened to take the american homes the Virginia House and other assemblies set the committees of correspondence to have a network of quick discussion of the new developments. This led to Americans to talk about independence and even later they would declare independence. -
The Boston Tea party
When the tea tax was introduced the sons of liberty had gotten on boats of tea and threw about 342 chests of tea into the harbor. They did this to kind of go against the Tea act of 1773 that the British put in. This led to two things 1) This was somewhat of the start of Americans beginning to resist and Boycott against the British. 2) The British began to act harder on the Americans with their soldiers. -
Coercive/intolerable Act
The Coercive acts had forced Massachusetts to pay for all the damage or lost tea in the harbor and submit to British imperial authority and this really was hated from the colonists/Americans. It also brought out many other acts like government act and worst of all a new Quartering. This led to more colonist to boycott but also led to Patriot leaders in the northern colonies to lead an open rebellion against these. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of bunker hill was that of Massachusetts defying British rule like the coercive acts. This was a very bloody battle from the colonists having the ground advantage but this also showed the advantage of British troops that the British government could just shoot out against the limited resource of supplies and men of the colonists. Even though the colonists were defeated this showed that colonists had the ability to fight against the British. -
Thomas Paine's Common sense
After the intense fighting in and around Boston, Thomas Paine had written the Common sense that brought emotional and government questions in the pamphlet. This pamphlet had a rousing call for both independence and a republican form of government. Paine had begun to assault the British tradition and the way they have acted against the Colonists. This was one of or even is the reason the second continental congress had created the declaration of independence. -
Battle of Saratoga
The battle of Saratoga was the turning point of the American revolution and in many ways was very important to the Americans. 1) The Americans were able to capture 10,000 British troops.2) In this battle the american colonists used the field advantages to win against the British using a reverse pierce techniques on the British. 3) This led Benjamin Franklin to final of the opening to get the French on their side against the British. -
The Treaty of Alliance
During the time before the battle of saratoga Benjamin Franklin was in France trying to get the help of the French army. The Fence did really want revenge against the British from the seven year war but did not feel like they could win with the American colonists. After the news of the victory of Saratoga France saw the opportunity to beat the British and they joined the war with the Americans. The most important was that French gave Navy to the american colonists. -
Battle of Yorktown
when General Cornwallis had a plan to retreat to the coast of Yorktown for thinking that all the British navy would be there to help him. The thing that he did not know was the all the navy was actually France navy waiting and George Washington kind knew about this. This caused Cornwallis to be blocked off and he had to surrender but also cause the world of the British to be turned upside down. This led to the end of the British attacks and had to sign a treaty with the American colonists. -
Treaty of Paris
In 1783 the revolutionary war had officially come to an end. This gave american two things out of this and the first was American are granted all British lands between the Atlantic ocean and the Mississippi river to the United states of america. 2) This would also lead to French being eternal friends to the Americans( that really never happend when french was in trouble). This would also lead to America being able to grew and focus on building their own government and economy. -
Shays Rebellion
The shay rebellion was an uprising led by mostly farmers in the western Massachusetts. The reason they began to rebel was that the articles of confederation and the economic downfall that caused workers not to be paid or being unfairly being taxed. This rebellion lasted pretty long and was put down from Samuel Adams creating his own military of troops. This had show the HUGE mistakes and failers that the articles of confederation had made and would soon led to the creating of a new constitution. -
Northwest Ordinance
The Northwest ordinance was the only really good thing that came out of the articles of confederation. This was good for a couple of reasons and first was "it made america pregnant" meaning that this provided settlements and help create Indiana,Illinois,Michigan and Wisconsin. the second part was that all the new settlements had abolished slavery and this didn't mean they began to stop slavery but this was a begging to start limiting slavery. Also gave more opportunity for new settlements. -
The Ratified Constitution
During the time after the failures of the articles of confederation congress had decided to rejoin and create a new kind of constitution to help their new government. This had been brought to congress and many people both federalist and anti-federalists both deciding what to create with the book. With James Madison's help and other they created amendments to help people later in life. This also was a foundation block for people who need help with government things later in life. -
Judiciary Act
The Judiciary act was the act of establishing federal district courts in each state with three levels of court systems. The Judiciary Act did help with taking account of the serving the low level courts system for low kind of cases. This also gave the chance for case to be brought up to the supreme court like in the future people with serious cases may lose in lower courts but in the supreme court win or the opposite happen. -
Hamilton's financial plan
Hamilton as the secretary of treasury had created a plan to help america grow is economy and help get rid of is dept after the revolution. Hamilton had created many ways to help his plan by making Reports in public credit that would assume all state debt. Another would be creating the Bank of the United States that Hamilton said that it could provide stability to the American economy from making loans to merchants and handling other government funds. This would lead to Jefferson going against it -
Bill of Rights
The Bill of rights was the first of the ten amendments to the constitution from the Federalist promising to add it from when they were ratifying the constitution. These amendments really helped the anti-federalists by giving safeguarded fundamentals like freedom of speech,traits and religious ways. These also help with counter acting against the federalist national power. These question of freedom were repeatedly contested until the Civil war and still remain hugely important today. -
whiskey rebellion
The whiskey rebellion was that of a farmer that wanted to rebel from the excise tax put on them. This was a major important moment because President Washington was able to go over himself and put down the rebellion. This showed how the government was able to shut down this rebellion instead of the a personalty military doing it back when the articles of confederation was still running. -
Jay's treaty
The Jay Treaty was about the Negotiation between The US and British once again. This treaty was mostly in place from the French Revolution and the British began to take american ships and their goods. People hated this treaty because they had to stop and let the British stop the ships and give their items from the pre-revolutionary and people though of this as them going to the British powers instead of there owned freedom. This led to more and more conflict between Americans and the British. -
Alien,Sedition and Naturalization Acts
These Acts were made to limit the individual rights and threatened the Fledgling party system. These acts were mostly used to 1) lengthen the residency of becoming a US citizen 2) Authorized the deportation of foreigners 3) The worst one allowed people to be arrested for insulting congress or the president. This would lead to Jefferson and other news to fight against it leading to Jefferson winning to become president and the people supporting him through their hate of these acts. -
Jefferson Becomes President
These was an easy victory from him from people going against the federalists in the house mostly from the Acts they made in the past and even Jefferson rival Hamilton supported Jefferson. Jefferson was at the beginning a good president because he focused on putting on a more agrarian culture in the government. Also Jefferson was very constructive meaning he followed the constitution and disliked the change of this. This would lead to problems for Jefferson later down in the years for changing. -
The Louisiana Purchase
This was the problem major against Jefferson because it was a battle against his ideas from expanding new land. The purchase was when french and gave the west territory of the Mississippi river from the gulf of mexico to Canada. This gave two things from one major advantage and one disadvantage. The first was the American size would be double the size from this purchase. This had caused Jefferson to think because he had to exercise his powers but that was not in the constitution. -
The Embargo act
This was from Jefferson having too much of France and the British attacking their ships and just prohibit traveling to other nations. This was very bad for the US because this had weakened the US economy and cut off 5 percent of all money made from this. On the other hand this actually help US in later years from it causing more industrialization to be made even though that was the opposite of what Jefferson wanted. This also caused people to dislike Jefferson from this. -
Battle of Tippecanoe
This was a battle between the natives and Americans because the natives were fighting and killing Americans with guns. The Americans had enough and attacked were most of the Shawnee Indians lived and killed many people in the so called holy villages. The important part was that the British had been supplying the natives with supplies and guns to fight against the American hopping they could win. This would lead to major conflict once again between America and Britian. -
War of 1812
This war came from Britain supporting the natives that were attacking american settlements. This war was pretty one side from Britain having all its forces from already defeated Napoleon forces. This led to the white house being burned and states suffering from lots of defeats and even more national debt raising it about to 127 million dollars in debt. Thanks to Britain for not having the resources and money wanted in peace. -
Treaty of ghent
The treaty of Ghent was a very lucky moment for the US because the only if not for it the British would have taken the land back. The reason the British didn't advance was from their resources,wealth and energy being very low from using it against Napoleon forces. Another reason why this was important was it took forever to spread. This would lead to General Andrew Jackson becoming very popular for defeating a British army because the treaty could not get there in time. -
Erie Canal
The Erie canal was becoming a major point for the US for the amount of uses it had. 1) it could be used to easily bring products to long travel states very fast or industries.2) This allows products of transportation like boats, railroads and even posts. Later in the years the Erie canal was a major travel point for goods or even sending troops for help in a battle. -
Panic of 1819
This was american first ever economic great depression that had been in the united states. This was mainly from the charter banks that would hold tons of money that the states had but had very shady operations. Also another reason was that Bad bank policies had a major part in the bring of the panic. On the other hand this did bring out a periodic boom in the modern market economy. -
The rise of andrew jackson
People liked Andrew Jackson for a couple of reasons. 1) He was a major war hero like Washington he had fought in an intense battle against the British but was still able to pull out a victory in the battle of new Orleans.2) Jackson was a people person and connected with south plantation with his past. like i said people actually liked him because he actually focused on the people rather then the rich or government powers. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri compromise came from both northern states and southern states talking about Maine is either a slave state or free state. Clay had come when the union was near breaking ( he would do this many times later throughout the years) and create the Missouri Compromise. This actually helps without the time from allowing the time for the balance of both free and southern. Until Later when more land and states were found this compromise would no longer work anymore. -
monroe doctrine
The Monroe doctrine was created by both Quincy Adams and James Monroe. This was a declaration that pledged that untied states would not interfere with the internal concerns of the European nations. This also brought out international acceptance of its northern and western boundaries. Also had gained diplomatic leadership for the untied states for creating this doctrine. Also gained for a little bit was a era of good feeling. -
The election of 1824
This election was very important because it was mainly pit up against Quincy Adams vs Andrew Jackson. when they were tied up in vote clay who had the power to decide to choose who wins had a secret talk and people would call this the Corrupt Bargain from Adams becoming president and Henry becoming secretary of state. On the other hand Adams did create many scientific exploration but Henry and Adams did create a fairly unpopular tariff and people began to hate and support Jackson from all this. -
Tariff of Abomination
This tariff was made from both Adams and Henry that had raised the duties on materials. That really made the south mad from them thinking they were either paying northeastern business or national government that would be British imported goods. This was an actually big point from which the southern governments began to attack Adams saying his he was not a great president slowly weakening him. Also led to a perfect opportunity for Jackson to get a spot of being the president. -
Spoil system
The spoil system was important because it was never done before in history from a president personally removing people from government jobs.This allowed Jackson to let all his allies to join the government jobs and he said this was the "voice of the people". This would lead people to argue saying the people were actually not fit for the government jobs. In reality Jackson's highest priority was to destroy the american system. -
Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson as a president started good but also showed his other sides and one of those were his some what "hatred" of natives and the Indian Removal act shows this. The act made it mandatory that the eastern tribes had to move west of the Mississippi. Jackson said this would be save and good but later like the "trail of tears" really showed differently. Also this led for people to start to undermine the actions Jackson made. -
Nat turner's Revolt
Turner read and hoer for Emancipation but could really never could from the plantation he was on. Turner had the idea with a group of other people to rebel and even killed 55 white people. This was quickly shut down by the south troops that killed them where they set up a somewhat defensive base. The thing that really hit was the huge amount of fear it put into the white men across the south. This caused plantation owners to be more harsh or watchful of their slaves to make sure they dont rebel. -
Worcester v Geogria's
This was a major event mostly because this was a court case from the Native people who were trying to stop the removal act. The court had even sided with Natives telling the people that the Cherokees land were "distinct political communities". Jackson and the Jacksonian's had little care and even challenged the court saying to act on it but Jackson still continued with his army to remove the Cherokee people. This led to the Trail of tears from Jackson not stopping from what the court said. -
Jackson Destroys the banks of america
Jackson had kind of went on a war against the Banks of America. Jackson began to veto the bills of the banks and feared that the banks would support the other people campaigning against him. Jackson began to transfer all the money of gold and silver to state banks. This decision had very bad impacts of the economy of the united states leading to another huge economic depression of the united states. -
Specie Circular
This was an order that made it sure that the treasury department only accepted sliver and gold for land. They did this to try to pay off the national dept but this would still lead to people building hated towards to people making this. This even lead to people voting towards the people that went against Van Buren who had created these in office. an the whigs could exploit that moment of many people hating th president. -
Trail of Tears
This was the journey the Cherokees people made when Jackson heavily pushed the Indiana removal act. This was very brutally from most or some dying of diseases of the new environments they would walk into or strove to death from little resources they could not bring. But like always this had caused major conflict with the Natives and Americans again from different natives tribes on the same land and Natives fighting Americans over the land again. -
Manifest Destiny
This was one of the most important events because this was the show the people the idea of we the Americans was fated by god to settle in the west. This led huge amounts of things 1) bringing out so many people both north and south to the west for land, money or even business. 2) later in the years people created huge railroad systems to the west and north. On the other hand this did bring even more conflict with the local natives. -
The organization of the free soil party
This was a movement that was mostly an people not abolitionist movement from them opposing the expansion of slavery. The reason why was that they didn't view slavery as a sin but a threat to republicanism. Also they gained how amount of supporters from white farms from helping giving land to them. This led to many political events being help by the free soil movement like helping opposing slavery acts but also start to bring out an republican party idea's. -

The great compromise came from the major conflict with California wanted to have a free state but southern and southerns were fighting or territories including California if they were free or slave state. Henry Once again shows up helping with this problem creating this compromise that would destroy the old Mississippi compromise. This let California become a free state but led to the "Fugitive slave act" that badly impact the ability of free slaves or free people. -
Uncle tom's cabin
The Uncle tom's cabin had a big impact into the voice of abolition slavery. This book depicted heartrending personal situation the barbarity of whipping and sexual abuse. This became a huge book over the nation and the northern states loved this but on the other hand the southern states hated this a lot. This became one of the foundations leading to the civil war fighting against the abolishment of slavery. -
Ostend Manifesto
This Manifesto talks about how the president should seize the land that they take from Spain like Cuba by using force. This was mostly made from southerners wanting more land to expand the business of plantation. northern and free soilers hated this because they thought of this as an perfect example of "slave power". Even the president Pierce saw the risk of continuing so he quickly quit it before he would have gotten in a lot of trouble. This still angered north for the idea of Slave power. -
Dred scott decision
This was how Dred Scott went to the supreme court asking for freedom because he talks about the Missouri compromise but the court ruled it unconstitutional. Also they said that African Americans were not citizens and could not sue in a federal court calling all stopping slavery unconstitutional. This led to many people who supported the end of slavery to be hit hard but also fuel a raging fire of the people like Lincoln who would debate against all of these claims. -
Lincoln vs douglas in debates
These were very important Debates that Lincoln would give that Douglas had to try to fight against unless he wanted to ruin his political image. when Douglas used the train to avoid debates and Lincoln had plans to be were Douglas was going to stop to debate him. This had heavily impacted the both in the opposite ways like Lincoln gaining major support and an actually image to have and Douglas started to lose support and ruin his image to others. -
Election of 1860
During the time of the election it was very much important from Lincoln before hand debating every opportunity he had against Douglas. This election also showed who much Lincoln had against Douglas and talk about not freeing slaves but creating spaces for some free slaves. The most important part was that the southern states had seceded during this election. This would cause the beginning of the civil war from Lincoln winning and the south breaking away the second he is in power. -
Habeas Corpus
During the time of the civil war Lincoln could not focus on only the people but he had to put most of his time into trying to win this war. People were trying to were protesting against the drafts for the war. Lincoln used the habeas corpus to arrest and send them to jail without justifying the reason. This was one of the mistakes that Lincoln because this would cause people to be wrongfully arrested. -
Himestead Act
The Homestead Act was only past from Lincoln. The homestead allowed any american citizen to gain about 160 acres of land. This had brought about tons of Americans into the west. This also caused native to move from the huge amount of american people moving into the west. Also most of the homes were taken from railroads and other companies and most people would lose these from not taking care of their homes. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The emancipation proclamation came from Abraham Lincoln from the pressure of the war and the rising Radical Republican pressure. The Emancipation proclamation face value was that of abolishing slavery in all states that remained out of the union. This had not really free the slaves during but had ended the institution. In reality Lincoln wanted to regain the union then freeing slave during this time. -
Twenty-rule
The twenty-rule was mostly about the military and confederate congress exempting man from join from if they had about twenty slaves owned by a family. These did have major disadvantages for the confederate armies from disadvantages to less support. When the slaves where sent instead of the southern men people began to freak from the point of rebelling against them. Another was the lower class fought against it and hated it from not being able to own slaves. -
Thirteeth admendment
The thirteenth amendment was able to finally create a law that was finally able to fully abolish slavery fully in america. This amendment had created a the foundation for African Americans to create an life of their own without being targeted or worked against. Even still people like southerners still worked against them creating the sharecroppers system that still acted like a softer version of slavery that would hold up for a very long time. -
civil rights act of 1866
These civil right act talked and acted mostly about how legislation passed by that nullified the Black codes and had affirmed that African Americans should have equal benefit the law. These were very important but this did also cause some conflict from people hating that African Americans had oh most the same rights as the white people. This was very close to being vetoed but the republican was able to over rule that veto on this. -
Reconstruction Act of 1867
The Reconstruction act was created to help during the reconstruction era. They began to divide the conquered south into five military districts which union US generals would watch over. This act had also caused confederate states to allow voting to freedmen and deny it to leading ex-Confederates. On the other hand over time the armies either moved or did not pay that much attention towards to south allowing them to abuse the African Americans in their states. -
Fourth amendment
This had supported both the 13th amendment from helping out African Americans and even helping more immigrants help as well. The Act has allowed Established national citizenship for persons born or naturalized in the united states. This has also prohibited states from depriving citizen of civil rights or equal protection under the law. This also had Reduced state representation in the house of representatives. -
Fifteen Amendment
The fifteenth amendment was able to help African Americans and even other immigrant that would have come into america. The act had forbade states to deny citizens the rights to vote on the grounds of race,color and previous condition of servitude. This was pretty massive because from the first time allowing African Americans to vote against somethings or even for things. These were abused from people threatening them or giving them a hard time. -
Ku Klux Klan Act
This act came from the the Enforcement laws that were passed by congress.This act had Authorized the president to use federal power or even military force to suppress conspiracies to deprive the rights to vote and enjoy the equal protection of the law. This had allowed the president to act out against what the act says the klu klux klan. On these assault on the kkk was creating the southern making them try to fight aganist these rules. -
Yellow stone national park
The Yellow stone national park was created to preserve the national life like for plants and even animals. During this was the first actual national park created end this had sparked many kinds of people and business becoming interested in national parks. This led to camps,hiking,watching animals and even staying at a cabin to be very popular among people. later on this would become even more popular and would expand more from Roosevelt. -
Comstock Act
The comstock act was a very much weird act that was created because it banned item kind of sexual or vulgar items. This had created a weird system because people would still trade those types of item. This still created the moral rules of sexual items and activities some what banning them until the roaring 19's when people began to question these things once again. In reality people had not really followed these rules. Also they were not in forced that much. -
Civil RIghts act of 1875
This civil right case like the one before hand had helped. On the other hand this was the supreme court decisions that struck down the past civil rights act of 1875.These had helped pave the way for later decisions that sanctioned segregation. Lastly this had pretty bad effects from people and even presidents had looked and continued to make the people become more and more segregated. Over time more and more of these civil rights acts and case would show up more often. -

The battle of long was mostly about American troops attacking encampment of native that were resisting removal to a reservation. This fight was very brutal but in the end the natives were actually able to beat the american soldiers in this battle. The Victory was very short from more US soldiers coming and annihilating the native. the native were shoved into reservation or went beaten and even starved through the bitter winter. -

This case was from the many kinds of states legislates and one these were very much challenged by the people and business. The case was mostly about if states could regulate key business such as railroads and grain elevators, those businesses were clothed in the public interest. This case was fear because it would let states control business they like or dislike. Later people would talk about the the fourtheenth amendment but kind of refused these for the African Americans. -
Bland-Allison Act
The Bland-Allison Act had mostly come from the free-silver movement of taking for the British and started to use silver and even gold as coins. This act had helped create silver and began to create sliver as a pretty good currency for the united states. These Acts mostly followed the free soil movement. This would later help farmers and their crop prices later in life. This would continue until the people switched. -

This was to help understand the land of mostly the western. The report helped gain a better understanding of what the Americans were going into like lands that were forest that native lived by. This report also tells about the weather of the lands like. They even talk about region of the lands like irriable lands, timber lands and even pasturage lands. These would help create for the government a good picture of what they were dealing with when searching the west. -

This was created to stop from Chinese people from coming into america and even block off most areas but not the areas that had high risk of death. Even later this act would affect any kind of Asian immigrants as well. this was really created from people being in fear of the immigrants coming into america and going to one direction which would be fishermen and something with fish. -

This was a many kinds of series that the supreme court decisions that struck down the civil Rights Act of 1875. This was very sever from pushing segregation more and more throughout america. This also affected on the reconstruction era and all trying to build to help all the people in america. Dawes Severalty Act
The Dawes severally act had like other acts in the past against native had severely hurt them. This act had "allowed Indianans individual ownership of lands by first dividing them and sent to reservations. This had first caused natives to lose 66 percent of their individually allotted lands. Also caused a major kind of fighting back from the native not wanting to give up they're land. This would even cause the battle for long horn from native trying to fight against the Dawes severalty act. -
Sherman Antitrust Act
This was the first federal attempt to forbid any "combination or conspiracy in restraint of trade". This had finally allowed for the government to investigate trusts and any companies in the violation of the act . This was very important but also was in a somewhat effect because business that helped the government or the economy would be watched must less then other companies breaking the rules. These rules of monopoly did work and stopped these business . -
Omaha Platform
The Omaha platform was mostly about really a statement from the populist calling for public ownership of transportation and communication networks. These people would try to protect their lands from monopoly and foreign ownership. This would also help the sherman antitrust act. They even talked about how they need to tax the rich more than them from the rich having "tons of money to spend rather then the farmers using blood and bone to earn some kind of dollar. -
Plessy vs Ferguson
The plessy vs Ferguson was mostly about at first was understanding if African american people could or could not ride a train car with whites. The bonus army where veterans who were in the great depression wanting to get their pay from being in WW1. All or most of the veterans had set up camps near Washington DC and they kind of covered the inter area causing the government to actually do something. D-day was one of the most gruesome kinds of war in WW2 from the soldiers being put in the shooting range of the Germans. D-day was very much important for a couple of reasons. This was a battle back for the European countries against the axis-powers and this was one of the perfect opportunities to gain back these lands. This also showed how the allied powers came together and fought against the Germans.
