  • Anti slavery Tract published by Thomas Paine

    One of the earliest and most influenced people to advocate for the abolishment of slavery.
  • Revolutionary war

    Blacks fought alongside the British and the americans during the revolutionary war. They picked sides by fighting for whoever would give them freedom from slavery.
  • Massachusetts Grants African Americans Right to Vote

    Captain Paul Cuffe and six other black massachusetts residents asked the state for the right to vote. They suceeded, and these seven were given full civil rights.
  • Slave Revolt in Louisiana

    Carles Deslondes and his makeshift army of about 200 enslaved men battled with farm tools for freedom
  • 13th Amendment

    The 13th amendment added to the US constitution abolished slavery.

    Gave African American Men the fight to vote and at a similar time Jim crow laws or segregation laws were implemented that separated African Americans and White people.

    Jackie Robinson was the first to play american baseball, breaking the color line for the first time in American sports.

    Civil rights act was approved that prohibited discrimination of any group because of race, color, religion, and sex.

    He was assassinated during a rally when he was speaking about African american unity in NYC
  • Voting rights act

    The act denied states the ability to include literacy tests as a prerequisite to voting

    First black appointed to the supreme court. Which gave African American representation in the supreme court.

    Martin Luther King was assassinated outside of his hotel room in Memphis. As a result a riot started at a rally in over 100 cities. 25000 people were arrested.

    The first African American Miss America was crowned.
  • First African astronaut

    Challenger space shuttle took off from Kennedy space center in Florida with 42 year old Col. Guion S. Bluford Jr. Quote: "Never let anyone define your limits. You have the power to surpass them all."
