  • Birth of Diego Rivera

    Diego Rivera was born on December 8, 1886, in Guanajuanto, Mexico. Diego had a twin named Carlos, died at the age 2. His parent, Diego Rivera and Maria Barrientos de Rivera, had several jobs; teacher, newspaper editor, health inspector (father), doctor (mother). His mother was jewish, who was converted into Roman Catholicism and his father who was born in a Spanish nobility.
  • Passion for Art

    At the age ten, Rivera went to study art at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Diego Rivera wasn't known only known as a famous mexican artist. He changed the way Mexico sees in the world and look as itself through his art.
  • Diego's Journey

    Diego's Journey
    At a very young age, Diego travelled to significant places to pursue his studying of art. During his journey, he met up with many artists and worked with them. Names such as Pablo Picasso, influenced by many french artists, Eduardo Chicharro Paul Gaugin and Henri Matisse and from there he moved to Paris, France. As he was in Madrid, Spain, he introduced Cubism.
  • Marriages

    In 1911, Diego married Angelina Beloff, she gave birth to a son, Diego, later leaving her in Paris in 1921. After a year had gone by, he remarried to his second wife, Guadalupe Marin, who gave birth to two daughters, Ruth and Guadalupe. Leaving her and marrying Frida Kahlo
  • Return to Mexico

    Returning back to Mexico, Diego was inspired and fell in love with the people and the colors. The revolution sees art as if it was the rights of everybody, not rich and wealth. Diego later became one of Mexican's foreign artists who received commissions for murals in public buildings from the new government.
  • Diego's Completion

    In 1922, DIego Rivera finished his first mural at the ENP (Escuela Nacional Preparatoriahe). After a year had gone by, he also completed his first monumental series at the SEP (Secretaria de Educacion Publica).
  • Trip to the U.S.S.R.

    Trip to the U.S.S.R.
    During his trip to the Soviet Republics, he spoke with many Russian artists. His work was very well known in Moscow through public views. Ben Shahn (Russian Artist), admired Rivera for his achievements of skill.
  • Diego and Frida

    Diego and Frida
    In 1929, Rivera marries to Frida, an artist. Both artists shared the same interests in politics and Marxism, also creating beautiful art. Putting a side his several relationships in the past. Their relationship didn't last long after due to Rivera's many affaris with different womens but did managed to get remarried. But they did managed to get remarried after a year of divorce. Even though they had a chaotic marriage, they remained living in different spaces, he was a well known womanizer.
  • Requests

    Through the 1930's-1940's, he painted several Murals for the U.S., during thay time he accepted many requests to paint murals, but little were left unfinished. Many requests came from famous leaders/politicians/architects/artists. One of the most known murals he painted was "Man at the Crossroads". A portrait of a Russian Communist leader Vladimir Lenin.
  • Death of Frida Kahlo

    Death of Frida Kahlo
    Frida Kahlo was diagnosed with gangrene in her right foot. Frida struggled poor health, and attempted suicide. On July 2, her physical condition became worst and died.
  • Rivera Remarries & Cancer Arrives

    A year past by after the death of Frida. He marries Emma Hurtado, an art dealer. That year, Rivera was later diagnosed with cancer.
  • Death of Diego Rivera

    His death occurred after he remarried. Diego traveled long distance to recieve cancer treatment. Unfortunately there was no cure for him. On that day, November 24, 1957, he died from heart faliure.
