    Creation of IBM
    In 1911, Charles F. Flint, a noted trust organizer, engineered the merger of Hollerith's Tabulating Machine Company with two others - Computing Scale Company of America and International Time Recording Company... It was called Computing- Tabulating- Recording Company (C-T-R)
  • THINK

    The "THINK" sign was coined. This would become their moto for years to come. It was coined by Thomas J. Watson who was a great leader within the CRT group and would eventually move from manager to president.
  • Name change

    As CTR began to grown and aquire new businesses such as the "ticketograph" and certain properties of the Pierce accounting machine company, their busniess was widely versatile. They company needed a more broad name and so on Feburary 14, 1924 the CTR was changed to the International Business Machines Coorperation (IBM)
  • The Education department

    The first modern Research and Developement division was created by IBM enititled The Education Department. The Education department handled educational activitis for both employees and customers. Among this divsion The IBM school house was created in 1932. The school house provided education and training for IBM's employees.

    With the Creation of the Education department within IBM, this led to the opening of the Endicott Schoolhouse which would provide a wide variety of training and education for the employees of IBM.
  • The Mark 1 is released

    The IBM took a large step towards computing as the released their first computing machine- the Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator (ASCC). This was also known as the Mark 1.
  • New technology, new leadership.

    Thomas J. Watson, Sr oversaw the company for four decades as the new techonolgy was coming about he then tranferred all power to his son Thomas J. Watson, Jr who is now the new Chief executive.

    The IBM coorperation continues to grow and improve their machines. The newest addition to the family was the IBM 701 which was the first production computer used for scientific problems.
  • IBM introduces FORTRAN

    FORTRAN is the world's first high-level programming language used for scientific programming.
  • The announcement of the IBM 7090

    The IBM 7090 was a big inprovement as the mainframe was able to perform of 200,000 calculations. The US Air force was a user of the 7090, they used the mainframe for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System.
  • IBM releases the System 360

    IBM releases the System 360
    The system 360 was the first family of computers that used multiple softwares and equipment. The system used five processors and 19 combinations of power, memory, and speed.

    IBM introduces the Floppy disk which then becomes the primary use for computer storage,

    The released and use of the IBM 3614 which is equivalent to the modern day ATM.
  • The release of the IBM personal computer

    The computers no longer take up an entire wall. The IBM personal computer or PC. The PC had several characteristics of the modern day computer such as a a dsiplay, printer, extra memory, game adaptors, and an application for text processing. The computer sold for about 1,500 which was a major change compared to the millions of dollars they previously had cost just two decades earlier.
  • 8 Billion loss...

    At the end of 1993 IBM reports a record breaking anual loss of * billion dollars. The company faced many rocks during this time period as the face back to back revolutions.
