    Sedition Act
    Make illegal to speak against war publicly. You could go to prison for being anti-war. In April 1918, the government arrested industrialist William Edenborn, a naturalized citizen from Germany, at his railroad business in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was accused of speaking disloyalty when he allegedly belittled the threat of Germany to the security of the United States

    The Election
    This was the first widely broadcast election with debates on TV, Kennedy seemed more relaxed than Nixon and this is one of the factors of the way he would win.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
    Lyndon Johnson surprisingly committed fully to getting the law passed. This law outlawed segregation in most public places, gave citizens of all races equal access to public facilities, required private employers to end discrimination in the work place and many other protections.
  • Voting Rights Act

    Voting Rights Act
    Law that suspended literacy test and other discriminatory Jim crow law practices that had restricted African American from voting. It eliminated various devices, such as literacy tests, that had traditionally been used to restrict voting by black people.
