    Sikh Passengers are denied entry to Canada
    The SS Komagata Maru was denied entry into Canada on May 21, 1914. There was 376 passengers on the ship and only 22 were allowed into Canada. Many thought this was an act of racism.

    When Britain declared war against Germany, that meant all of the colonies in the british empire were automatically at war as well. During WW1 more than 60,000 Canadians lost their lives, nearly 2,000 were First Nations. 172,000 men and women were wounded. When WW1 was going on overseas, Canada was trying hard to stay out of debt but unfortunately Canada fell into almost $95 million dollars worth of debt by the end of the war.

The monument in Givenchy-en-Gohelle, France, signifies the bravery of the 11,285 Canadians who lost their live in France throughout the war who don't have proper burial ground and unknown graves.

Many different people came to Canada for many different reasons, some wanted a better life, safety, better education and jobs. Canada welcomed immigrants with open arms and that's why we are known as "the country with open arms" or the "nicest country".
