    1856 the case of Dred Scott
    Dred Scott case reached the Supreme Court in 1856.The Supreme Court, under Chief Justice Roger B. Taney. Ruled that Dred Scott was not a U.S. citizen. As result ,he could not sue in U.S. courts.

    Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglass debate the issue of slavery in the 1858 Senate campaign in Illinois. Douglass secedes and made a plan called the compromise 0f 1850.Lincoln won the election.
