  • 1824- Constitution of 1824

    1824- Constitution of 1824
    The Mexican Constitution. It greatly resembled the U.S. Constitution, but this was poorly received. Not only did Mexico ignore the fact that the central government was supposed to have limited power, most of the time they just ignored it all together. Plus, no one ever agreed on it or voted on it. This angered the colonists and made tension between them, mainly because none of them got to vote on it whatsoever.
  • 1826- Fredonian Rebellion

    1826- Fredonian Rebellion
    A rebellion organized because of a imperioso named Haden Edwards who was mad his contract was cancelled after he tried to make already settled residents either pay him or leave. He made an alliance with the cherokee indians, and then went to several cities trying to rally followers. He fled in 1827 when the Mexican military arrived to stop him.This whole thing only lasted about 2 years, but it greatly reduced Mexico’s trust for Americans, mainly Anglo Americans.
  • 1827- Mier y Terán Report

    1827- Mier y Terán Report
    An analysis of texas made by Mexican General Manuel de Mier y Terán in response to the Fredonian Rebellion. Manuel traveled all over Texas, studying why the rebellion happened. When Teran returned, he reported that American population was going out of control. America was slowly taking over Texas. De Mier advised that they take drastic measures to stop this, such as increasing trade to and from Texas, and making new laws to encourage European immigration.   • 1829- Guerrero Decree

    1829- Guerrero Decree
    A Mexican attempt to ban all slavery in Mexico. This was believed to slow down American immigration because Americans heavily relied on slavery. Although the government agreed that this would not apply to Texas, it still created more Mexican distrust in the Anglo Americans.
  • 1830- Law of April 6, 1830

    1830- Law of April 6, 1830
    The law that General Manuel suggested that Mexico make. It greatly limited American immigration to Texas by limiting slavery brought to Texas. Stephen F. Austin negotiated with Mexico and opened immigration up more, but this law still infuriated the colonists.
  • 1831- Conflict at Anahuac

    1831- Conflict at Anahuac
    A fight between Mexican Col. Juan Davis Bradburn and Anglo settlers. Juan came to enforce the law of April 6, which most settlers disagreed with. The law of April 6, 1830 essentially caused all of this. It was mainly small disagreements between Davis and the settlers refusing to obey the mexican law for a while, but then he arrested WIlliam Travis, Patrick Jack, and several other settlers.   • 1832- Turtle Bayou Resolutions

    1832- Turtle Bayou Resolutions
    After Santa Anna lead the settlers to win a significant victory in capturing fort at Anahuac, they went ahead and made 4 documents pointing out all of Mexico’s violations to the own law, basicly saying they weren’t following the fair parts of the constitution. It also encouraged all settlers join their cause and overtake Mexico. They also said that they weren’t Anglos attacking Mexico, but Federalists defending their rights from a centralist government.   • 1832- Battle of Velasco

    1832- Battle of Velasco
    The first case of bloodshed between the 2 sides. The Mexicans were trying to stop a ANglo ship carrying a cannon. It wasn't that big, with only 91-200 on Mexico's side, and 100-150 on the settlers side. The battle ended when the Mexicans ran out of ammo and were forced to surrender. This battle was significant because it made both sides worry about how many casualties a war would bring, and both were worried what would happen if they lost.

    1832- Convention of 1832
    Intended to find a solution for both Mexico and the settlers. The Anglo Americans made a list of demands, and elected Stephen F. Austin as their leader, but the Mexicans refused to come or negotiate. This angered the Texans, they wanted many different things such as Texas being itś own state, modifying the Law of April 6, and several other things, and to have Mexico outright refusing to even show up made the Texans furious and made war a lot closer.
  • 1833- Convention of 1833

    1833- Convention of 1833
    A convention the day the settlers took over Mexico, after a difficult rebellion. This was different that the previous convention, because they were certain the new government would allow them their freedoms, and they did it right after the rebellion because they wanted their freedom now. They revised their old terms, such as agreeing that the law of April 6 should be removed, and agreed that Stephen F.   • 1834- Stephen F. Austin Goes to Mexico City

    1834- Stephen F. Austin Goes to Mexico City
    After the convention, SFA immediately went to Mexico City to talk to the new government. There, he talked and persuaded the government to appeal a lot of the previous laws, such as the law of April 6, but the government would sadly not allow Texas to become its own state. Once he was done, he headed home, but he was arrested under suspicion of trying to incite insurrection in Texas, and was brought back to CONTINUED ON GOOGLE DOC OUT OF WORDS >:( WHY DO THEY HAVE A CHARACTER LIMIT!?!?!??!?!
  • 1835- The Consultation

    1835- The Consultation
    A debate between the settlers to decide weather it’s best to try for a peaceful solution or fight for freedom. At the time, they were fighting Mexico again, and many people wanted freedom, but a lot of others wanted peace. There were two sides in this debate- the side that wanted peace, lead by Stephen F. Austin, and the side that wanted freedom, led by William Wharton and Henry Smith. After a while of debating, they established a CONTINUED ON GOOGLE DOC. AGAIN. UGH WHY IS THERE A WORD LIMIT!?!?
