    The first package holiday was from leicester to loughborough by train even though it wasnt very far, the first real one that we know of was in 1949 when Vladmir Raitz took 32 passengers to Corsica on a DC3 aeroplane, it included accomodation in tents, return flights, transfers and full board and only charged £32.50, and now package holidays are normal, most travel agents put them together because it is easier for them and for the customer.

The boeing 727 was introduced in 1963 and has been one of the most successful series of passenger jetliners of the past 50 years. Now the boeing 727 is still fyling for comercial airline advertisments.

    High speed train lines such as France's extensive train have helped maintain the succsess of the railway in some countires. the european high speed rail network has been extended and TGV services now run direct from paris. a proposal has been made by network rail for a high speed railway line linking scotland and London, this would provide competition for airlines working between routes.

    Between the years 1945 and 1960 holiday camps were at their peak, they were great for getting away for the weekend and brilliant to stop for a week if people could get the time of work, with new names popping up it catered for about 60% of the holiday market. The most popular holiday names were Pontins, Warners, and Butlins, these names were important in the holiday market. 1970 the holiday camps declined, this is when the package holidays began to take their place.

    Boeing produced the jumbo jet 747 this held 500 seated passengers, it cruises at about 965 kilometers pe hour and has a non stop range of just over 11,500 kilometers it had the folowing impact on the package holiday market: became possible to fly further in less time. increased capacity on the jet led to decrese in the proce per seat. and as jumbo jets were used more smaller aircrafts were avalible.

    The transport Act ended licensing regulation, coach routes and tours only did about 30 miles, this led to competition with the coach routes and the private companies. Then the government decided to remove restictions so that the private companies could operate on any route, (The public companies were not happy about this because it ment that a lot of their customers would use private companies.) This process is called deregulation.

    The channel tunnel was just an idea for many years untill Forgeign Affairs ministers of both countries signed the Franco-British Treaty in Canterbury, wanting the tunnel to become reality, the tunnel would allow the british to leave their island without flying and without the risk of seasickness, it would also encourage our continetal neighbours to visit the UK, increasing tourism in Britain.
