Erikson's stages

  • Adulthood

    When Suzzie moved to a different country for college, she didn't know anyone and had no friends. According to Erikson's eight stage of intimacy vs. isolation, Suzzie needs needs to form relationships with other young adults and create friends to avoid loneliness. Later on, she found Jo and developed a loving relationship.
  • Trust vs. Mistrust

    A couple weeks after baby Kate was born, her father, Lando, came home from a deployment in the military. During his break from his tour of service, Lando spent his time taking care of baby Kate and feeding her. According to Erikson's eight stage of trust vs. Mistrust, Infants develop trust from someone's care and affection.
  • Exploration

    Little Sebastian stepped inside the classroom. He is now about to experience his first day of preschool. At first, he would stand in the corner because he was shy and scared. The next week of preschool, little Sebastian started to love going to school because he has made friends to play with. According to Erikson's eight stage of initiative vs. guilt, Sebastian had control and power after a few day and created a sense of purpose not resulting in guilt.
  • Freshman

    In the couple days of John's freshman experience in high school, he felt out of place because him and his family newly moved to the town. John found a flyer for drama club and joined. After a couple weeks, John became comfortable in school and the community after hanging out with some drama club members. According to Erikson's eight stage of identity vs. role confusion, teens need to find themselves and develop sense of self.
