    Alien & Sedition acts restricts political opposition and orders deportation of "dangerous aliens". Thomas Jefferson and James Madison publish resolutions in opposition.

    George Washington dies in Virginia at age 67, The life and memorable actions of George Washington book comes out the year after his death. Patrick Henry also dies this year in Virginia at age 63.

    JEFFERSON IS THE THIRD PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.
    The Jefferson and Burr are tied in the election so the election goes to the House of Representatives, Jefferson is elected in 36 ballots. John Marshall is appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

    LOUISIANA PURCHASE
    The Louisiana Territory is purchased from France for $15 million, which nearly doubles the size of the United States. Samuel Adams dies in Boston at age 81.

    Thomas Jefferson is re-elected president and George Clinton is elected vice-president. Twelfth Amendment is ratified, which is a separate elections of president and vice president.

    Ban of importation of slaves is passed by Congress. Cotton is the leading U.S. export.
