  • Westward Expansion

    Westward Expansion
The U.S. has grown in population from 31 million to 38 million in ten years. The economy is the best it's ever been and we hope to find gold soon. Me and Mike are trying to decide where the best place to move is.
  • Minnesota

    Minnesota
Today I moved to Minnesota. My husband was drawn here because of the mining sucess. Unfortunately, I had to come along. I say this negatively because I've heard that farming isn't the easiest here.
  • Native Americans

    Native Americans
I have heard about to conflict Native Americans are causing. I don't know if i necessarily agree with doing away with them because they are human too. I feel like there could be some kind of compromise that would satisfy immigrants and Americans.
  • The Steel Plow

Today I was introduced to The Steel Plow. Living in Minnesota makes farming hard, but The Steel Plow can plow the rich soil that these wooden plows I have been using, can't.

    Meeting Daniel Freeman
Today I met Daniel Freeman, the first homesteader. Daniel was a Union Army scout. He filed a land claim on January 1, 1863. After that, more than 80 million acres had been granted to over 480,000 homesteaders during Westward Expansion.

    Andrew Carnegie
The talk of the town has been a man by the name of Andrew Carnegie. He is important in the steel indusstry, which means he's important to my family since my Mike is now apart of the steel industry. I believe he has good intentions and is trying to benifit everyone.

    Telephone
Today the fist telephone was installed in our town. I don't know much about it but I know it's going to be extremely beneficial in many different ways. Now we can know what's going on in other states.
  • Annexing Hawaii

    Annexing Hawaii
Earlier this year, Hawaii was annexed into the United States and I now know why. There's definetely a lot of economic and geographic reasoning behind it. It just made the U.S. more powerful overall.

  • Meeting William Hearst

Right now we are visiting Mike's family in New York, which is also the home of William Hearst. Mike's family was giving us a tour of the city when we caught Mr.Hearst leaving his office. I introduced myself and surprisingly, he's actually a very laid-back person. You'd never think he was the person behind all those stories.
  • Meeting Joseph Pulitzer

    Meeting Joseph Pulitzer
Shortly after I introduced myself to Mr.Hearst, Joseph Pulitzer walked up and I had the oppurtunity of meeting him as well. Joseph was Hearsts' partner and was a huge part of the New York newspaper.
  • Yellow Journalism

    Yellow Journalism
Today I read an article that I find hard to believe. I was mentioning it to my neighbor when she told me it was called "Yellow Journalism." That basically means that the story was dramatized to gain publicity. This skill is probably really useful in politics.
