    the union victory in the civil l War had given around 4 million slaves their freedom.the process of rebuilding the South durinf the Reconstrcution period introduces some new sets of significant challenges.

    president Andrew Johnson passed restrictive black codes to control labor and behavior of former slaves and other african american.

    the radical Reconstruction began this year, blacks gain a voice in the government for the first time.winning election to southern state legislatures and even the U.S congress. The rectionary forces including the KKK would recerse the changes by Radical Reconstruction in a violent backlash it restored white supremacy in the south.

    Republicans had quietly given up thei fight for racial equality and blacks right in the southern.Hayes the last federal troops from the south also the bayonet backed republican government collapsed thereby ending the reconstuction.

    the first Transcontinental railroad was built crossing the western half of American and it was put together between 1863 and 1869. it was 1,776 miles long went from Atlantic and Pacific coast of United States to connect by rail for the first time in history.

    Homestead helped to espand and to develop the U.S becuase it granted land for the agriculture. people were able to acquire land west of Mississippi River and they setttled it too. Abraham lincoln signed Homestead Action on May 20th of 1862.
