    Scientific Revolution

    This was the foundation for the Enlightenment, it started questioning authority.
  • Galileo supports the Heliocentric Theory

    This went against the Church teachings and this was unheard of at the time. This started to break some of the Church's power.

    English Civil War

    The result of this was something different from the Absolute monarchies that ruled Europe at the time and was a part of the reason for the French Revolution.
  • Hobbes's Leviathan is published

    this had a lot of enlightenment ideals which all inspired revolution.

    Glorious Revolution

    led to the French Revolution as the people of France saw that limiting monarchy and achieving some freedoms as possible, this was the inspiration for the revolution.
  • Locke’s Two Treatises on Government is published

    Included a lot of enlightenment ideas that changed people's political identity during the french revolution.

    Enlightenment

    The ideas that came from this event eventually led to many revolutions including the French Revolution.
  • Diderot Publishes First Volumes of Encyclopedia

    This massive encyclopedia included many political enlightenment ideas. Since it was very popular, these ideas spread around.

    Lous XVI's reign

    Under his reign, Massive drought and money issues sprouted prompting the people of France to revolt because of the mismanagement from the king and the massive spending/debt from Marie Antoinette.

    where the first shot is fired that started the whole American Revolution

    America's own revolution was similar to the French Revolution and our own constitution had many similar ideas to the French constitution.
  • Declaration of Independence

    this declaration officially separated America from England, this also helped in leading others into a revolution like France.
  • Declaration of Rights of Man

    this is the Constitution for France.
  • National Assembly is formed in France

    The National Assembly represented the Third Estate and was crucial in the ending of absolute Monarchy in France. They demanded that the king make MAJOR reforms to France.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    This oath was made in a nearby tennis court after the Third Estate was locked out of the Estates' General meeting. this led to the making of a new constitution.
  • Legislative Assembly is formed in France

    The Legislative Assembly was the governing body of France that drafted laws and also made France a Constitutional monarchy.
  • bill of rights is signed

    Inspiration for the French Revolution and guaranteed civil rights and liberties to the individual like freedom of speech.
  • Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Women is published

    more and more people were taking up the view that women should be given more right like the right to vote and this book helped with that movement.

    Reign of Terror (start to end)

    Maximilien Robespierre was the main problem because once he became a leader, he started acting like a dictator. He executed many people just because he didn't view them as 100% supporters. the worst part was, most of them were of the third estate. This caused a lot of fear in people and he had to be executed after a while which ended the reign of terror.
  • Execution of Louis XVI

    They were caught trying to escape France and this made him appear like even more of a coward and unfit ruler. although they didn't plan on killing him originally, the radicals demanded his head and eventually won, so he was executed by guillotine.
  • Execution of Marrie Antoinette

    was caught trying to escape. the people hated her as she spent so much money that the third estate alone had to pay off and because of all the combined hate, she too was executed by Guillotine
  • Napoleon’s coup

    Napoleon took advantage of the chaos left in the wake of the French Revolution and during this time, he managed to stop the Directory, a corrupt group of five leaders, and after building some goodwill with the people, helped the legislative assembly at gunpoint until they basically crowned him king.
