    Proclamation of Neutrality
    This Proclamation declared that the United States remain neutral in the conflicts between France and Great Britain. Banned the American Ships to supply materials for either country.
  • XYZ Affair

    XYZ Affair
    To release tension, President John Adams sent two American diplomats to meet with French officials. They demanded a payment before they were allowed to meet with the officials. The US saw this as bribery which angered them. The XYZ affair broke down and the relationship between the US and France went south.
  • Convention of 1800

    Convention of 1800
    This convention was signed in order to restore peace between France and the US. It completely ended the Quasi War.
  • Louisana Purchase

    Louisana Purchase
    Jefferson purchased the Louisana Territory from Napolean of France. This 15 million dollar purchase doubled the size of the United States.
  • Embargo Act

    Embargo Act
    This act kept the US out of foreign troubles. It stopped trade but this was not a good thing for the United States economy. This act created huge economic downfall.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    A conflict that lasted two and a half years consisting of many battles over these years. Great Britain and France were in such huge conflict so in order to reach their goal they wanted to block all trade within the United States.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty of Ghent
    This ended the War of 1812 and the territory was returned to the nation. "The Second War of Independence"
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    This was the beginng of the Era of Good Feelings. It showed tremendous national pride throughout the country. James Monroe made this doctrine so that the US would not tolerate any European intervention in affairs of an independent nation in the Americas. Colonization was no longer allowed.
