US History

  • Dust Bowl

    Dust Bowl
The dust bowl was a period of severe dust storms that damaged the United States and Canadian crops during the 1930s. This is also why this time period was called the "Dirty Thirties." What caused this was a severe drought and a failure to apply dry land farming methods to prevent wind erosion. The drought and erosion of the Dust Bowl affected 100,000,000 acres of land. The reason I chose this topic is because me and all other Americans could learn from this to help it from being as bad.
  • Berlin Olympic Games

    Berlin Olympic Games
The opening ceremony for the Olympics was on August 1 1936, and the ending ceremony was August 16 1936. For the event, Germany built a 100-000 seat track and field stadium, there was 49 nations participating. Adolf Hitler saw the games as an opportunity to get his ideas of racial supremacy across; in the paper they wrote, "Jews should not be allowed in this event." The reason I chose this topic is because this event shows how Hitler is unfair and the United States should stop him.
  • Baseball in 1941

    Baseball in 1941
In this baseball season, Joe DiMaggio hits in 56 consecutive games. Also, Ted Williams ended the season with a 406. batting average. No hitter that qualifies for the batting title has hit over .400 since that season. That year, the New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 4-1 in the series. In addition to all of this, Joe DiMaggio also won the MVP. I chose this topic because the New York Yankees are one of my favorite teams and Joe DiMaggio was one of my favorite players of all time.
  • Germany attacks on Soviet Union

    Germany attacks on Soviet Union
The attack on Soviet Union was Operation Barbossa. Nazi Germany invaded Soviet on June 22, 1941, this was the largest German military operation of WWII. This invasion lasted all the way until December 5, 1941. Germany invaded with about 4 million soldiers; in addition to that, they had around 600,000 vehicles and around 650,000 horses. The reason I chose this topic is to show how much power Hitler had, and another reason why the US should stop him.

The 1941 Heisman winner was Bruce Smith. Bruce Smith was a running back and he went to college at Minnesota. He was voted for being the Heisman two days after Pearl Harbor happened. Surprisingly, when he went to the NFL draft, he was drafted in the 13th round. Along with all of this, he served as a United States Navy fighter pilot.
  • US declare war on Japan

    US declare war on Japan
On December 7, 1941, the United States congress declared war on the Empire of Japan. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor is what caused us to declare war. The vote to go to war against Japan was 82-0 in the senate and 388-1 in the house of representatives. The reason I chose this topic is because it is an event that has changed our country ever since.

  • D-Day

    D-Day
Also known as Normandy landings, was the landing operations on June 6, 1944. On this day, more than 160,000 allied troops landed on a heavily fortified French coastline to fight Germany. The attack gained a foothold in continental Europe, this began their long journey across Europe and to defeat Hitler. The reason I chose this topic is because I believe these troops are the reason Hitler was dead, they caused a lot of pressure on Germany and I would have done the same thing.
  • Operation Foxley

    Operation Foxley
Operation Foxley was a plan in 1944 to assassinate Adolf Hitler. This operation was planned by the British Special Operations Executive. Even though there was a lot of ideas being made, no one really made an attempt to carry out the plan. People believed if the Operation would have happened, it would've happened either July 13th or the 14th.
