  • The Great Awakening

    The Great Awakening
    -This event is important because it made people talk and question the authority of the British government. It also made people become more christian and encouraged political equality.
    - Church leaders feared that many colonists' dedication to their religion was declining and the religious tradtions have been lost.
    -They held revivals, had emotions and inspirational speeches, and had big sermons.

    The Great Awakening continued
    -This changed religious, social, and social life in the colonjies. People felt more safe from sin. This brought people together and they stared quetioning the authority of the British government.
    - this led to more religous poeple. and the British government being questioned.
  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    -This event is important becuase The French and the British were fighting for conrol of the colonies and trade routes
    -Fighting for ports and land led to this event.
    -During the war the FRench fought the British which had Idndian allies.
    -The British colonist did not want to give up their individual authorities.
    -THe british won most of the important battles.In 1763 they finally signed the peacce treaty.
  • Proclamation

    Proclamation
    -To avoid war and loss of life the British astablished the proclamation.
    -Colonists continuing to move onto Indian lands is the cause t this event.
    -People were not allowed to move to places such as Ohio River Valley which was and Indian land. IF they already lived there they had to move back.
    -Some colonist were afraid to move onto Indian Lands and some colonists just ignored it.
    -This led to the colonists expanding to the west.

    The Sugar Act
    -Put taxes on goods such as wine, coffee, sugar, and mollassis
    -Britian was in dept and needed money
    -It was the first law passed by the parliments.
    -The colonists did not like it. They thought it was just another way of putting taxes
    The colonists started a boycott. THe boycott hurt the economy so the British ended new taxes.
  • The stamp act

    • It was ment to be substituded for the sugar act
    • Prime minister of Greenville had heard the comlaints -A stamp or a seal was made for all papers
    • The British rebelled and formed the sons of liberty that used violence to scare tax collectors -It ended because the prime minister passed the declotary law to allow colonies to make their own laws and decisions
  • Townshed Act

    Townshed Act
    • Placed taxes on impored glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea -The Parliments still had to pay for the battle of the French and Indian war -Colonists thought that the colonial courts and legislatures and gave it to the royal officials -The parliments passed the tax and und used writs of assistance -The colonist responded with another arge-scale boycott. Parliments repealed the tonwshed act but kept the tax on tea
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    -Made a stronger tention between the soldies and Bostonians
    -The soldiers were not welcome, both sides represented eachother. There was a lot of name calling going around
    -Soldiers shot at a mob killing African Americans, sailor Crispus Attucks, James Caldwell, and others
    -Colonists wanted trail for thiss
    -Ended due to trail

    Tea Act
    -A tax on tea to show that the parliment still had the right to tax
    -Colonists bought a lot of tea attracting the interest of British East Indian Company
    -The company wanted to place tax on their teas leading them to pay their depts
    - THe colonists did not like this, but still followed it.
    -Colonists united in opposistion to the tea act.
  • Boston Tea party

    Boston Tea party
    -This event let the parliment know how badly the did not want the taxes.
    -The tax on tea was still in tact and the Bostonians were angry
    -90,000 pounds of tea was dumped into the Boston Harbor.
    -The British were satasfied and happy for the tea party.
    -This led up to the Intolerable Acts and angered the Parliments

    -A punishment for the Boston Tea Party
    -The first of the four laws shut down the Boston Harbor until the paid the price of all the tea. The second law canceled the Massachusetts charter. The third law moved the trials of royal colonial officials to Britian. The fourth measure was called the Quarering Act which required colonists to house and supply the British soldiers.
    -some colonists wrote pamphlets, editorials, and plays to critisize the British soldiers
  • Battle of Lextington/Concord

    Battle of Lextington/Concord
    -Refered to the intolerable acts when colonists stood up fo their rights
    -the colonists foughts against the Britians.
    -The colonists did not want to fire until the Britians fired, but later got into war. They wanted declare their freedom.
    -Many colonists responded with shock and anger.
    -This ked to the Second Continetial Congress
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    -It was a moral victory for the colonists. It demostrated that, despite superior British firepower, they could withstand a frontal assualt from the British army.
    -Ater the battle of Concord, the British withdrew to Boston where Minutemen surrounded the city. Onc3e Reinforcement arrived, the colonial forces held Boston under seige- a military blockage of the city or fort.
    -the colonist fought. they surrounded the Britishbut were still outnumbered.
    -They were low on gunpowder but still tried.

    -The colonists lost but then this led to the Dorchester Heights.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    -Argued for breaking away from Great Britian
    -Thomas Paine was angry at Britian and started to rebell against Britian
    -The common sense was talking about Independence and how colonist should make their own decisions
    -Colonists started to agree. This changed many attitudes towards Britian.
    -Led to the Declaration of Independence
  • Declaration of Indpendence

    Declaration of Indpendence
    -The Declaration wass written to declare independence and tell people why they were declaring independence.
    -People were sick of being treated unfairly.
    -This document was made to declare freedom.It talked about the 3 self-evident truths and that the government couldnt do anything without the people agreing.
    -The colonists got freedom.
    -This led to seperaton of colonies
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    -It was a win for the Patriots because they had an advantage of winning
    -Burgoyne was outnumbered by many of the patriots and it was an advantage
    -It was a battle between Burgoyne and the patriots who won
    -they were excited it "The most brilliant page in america's history"
    -It led to forgein countries support for the patriots

    Battle of Yorktam
    -It was one of major last Battles between between Britian and the Colonies
    -They wanted to prevent British ships from comming in and attacking the large british army
    -10,000 soldiers fought against a large army of british and won
    -The British colonies won and were free from the british who surrendered
    -It lead to the treaty of paris and ended when the British surrendered

    Treaty of Paris
    -Citizens of America were acknowledged ot possess absolute freedom and independece
    -The Battle of Yorktown led to the British's loss and wanted to make peace
    -The Continental Congress made a negotiation with the British and made a treaty
    -The British colonies were excited to be free from the British hold
    -It led to freedom and Independence of colonies
