  • Operation Desert Storm

    Operation Desert Storm
    In August of 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait–The United States responded by ceasing connections and trades with Iraq. In January of 1991, The US, along with multiple other allied countries including Kuwait, orchestrated a large attack on Iraq. Once this war had begun, the United States called for a ceasefire after a very short amount of time. This is a very important concept, because it has only increased tensions between the US and Iraq over time. (Holland 1999)
  • WTC Bombing

    WTC Bombing
    Before the infamous September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, there was a first attack attempt–as a bomb was set off in the WTC’s underground garage on February 26th, 1993. This attack was orchestrated by a man named Ramzi Yousef. It is very important because terrorism was coming to a rise during this time, and this would be a fundamental occurrence to understand; especially with what would happen only a few years later.   • Oklahoma City Bombing

    Oklahoma City Bombing
    The Alfred Murrah Federal building was attacked and destroyed by a bomb in April of 1995. This attack injured and killed over hundreds of people. At the time, this bombing was considered to be one of the deadliest acts of domestic terrorism in the United States. The orchestrators behind this attack went by the name of Timothy Mcveigh, and Terry Nichols– making an attempt to go against the government, and assert their hateful and extremist views.   • Clinton Scandal and Impeachment

    Clinton Scandal and Impeachment
    In 1998, speculations began to come out about an affair between President Bill Clinton and a woman named Monica Lewinsky–Lewinsky was an intern at the White House; so a wide scale scandal came out of this occurrence, eventually leading up to the potential impeachment of Clinton.     In 1999, the moments approaching the new year and millennium of 2000 caused massive levels of worldwide hysteria. This is particularly because many people were not sure how internet systems would switch over due to issues in programming–computers, and many other forms of technology were still fairly new around this time.

  • Operation Enduring Freedom

    Operation Enduring Freedom
    Operation Enduring Freedom was a response to the September 11th attacks that began in October of 2001. The operation was done in an attempt to remove the Taliban, and stop Al-Qaeda. This is a very important topic to discuss, especially because it was a way for the United States to assert their fight back against the attacks against Americans, and terrorism as a whole.

  • 9/11

    9/11
    On September 11th, 2001–America was flipped upside down as three airplanes were hijacked, and crashed into the World Trade Center + The Pentagon as an intentional attack. This attack was orchestrated by Al-Qaeda terrorist organization in the hands of Osama Bin Laden. This event, still widely recognized and mourned today, is considerably one of the largest terrorist attacks to ever happen in the United States of America, resulting in tremendous amounts of damage, and thousands of casualties.

    Hurricane Katrina
    In August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina made its way through the tropics, into the United States– sweeping parts of Florida, and then intensifying–hitting the major coastline of Louisiana as a category 5 hurricane. This storm was one of the most powerful hurricanes to occur in US history, causing billions in damage, and thousands of fatalities for many residents in multiple states near the Gulf of Mexico.     Barack Obama was the first biracial African American to ever run for and win president of the United States. His presidency was a big turning point for the nation in the sense of race and politics. (Greenstein 2011)
  • The 2010 Haiti Earthquake

    The 2010 Haiti Earthquake
    The 2010 earthquake that occurred in January of 2010 shook the entirety of Haiti at a whopping magnitude of 7.0. Haiti, as it already was a very poverty stricken, unstable country to begin with–would then have to face a long road of reparations. International responses through the United Nations would soon begin; the US embassy and many other governmental organizations from multiple countries responded very promptly to the disaster.
