Jamestown was the first English colony established in the new world, located in the state of Virginia -
Mayflower lands in the New World.
The mayflower lands and establishes a colony called Plymouth. The people create the Mayflower Compact, the first written system of government. -
Province of Maryland is Established
The providence of Maryland is established, which will eventually develop into the state of Maryland. -

The British continue to create taxes to make money on the colonies, this one being on sugar. -

The first sparks of the American Revolution starts after the people get sick and tired of British taxing everything and passing Acts without giving representation in the government. -
Stamp Act
The stamp act was imposed in 1765 by the British forcing the Americas to use British paper for newspapers, legal documents, and magazines. -
Quartering Act
Another act passed by the British forcing citizens to house soldiers in their homes and provide care. Was eventually amendment. -
Boston Massacre
Soldiers opened fire on colonists, and basically got away with it. -
Tea Act
British imposed another tax, which was on Tea. This taxed any imported tea that wasn't British. Commonly opposed by colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
Boston citizens threw British tea overboard in rebellion of the Tea Act, which made any tea except British tea obsolete. -
The Intolerable Acts
The British put more acts in place to punish Americans for Boston Tea Party. -
First Continental Congress
12 out of 13 colonies met to develop a response to the Intolerable Acts. -
Battle of Lexington
The battle that jump started the American Revolution. From this battle comes the quote: "The shot heard round the world". -
Thomas Paine
He published a very famous persuasive pamphlet called Common Sense. -
Second Continental Congress
The second meeting following the first in 1774. They met to raise armies, appoint diplomats, and direct strategy. Started moving towards freedom. -
Declaration of Independence
The declaration of independence was signed, and sent to British America. This is where "John Handcock" comes from, him being the one who signed the biggest. -
Articles of Confederation
This was the first constitution of the United States. It started to bring together the states but states still had the most power despite the central government. -
American Independence Recognized
The British officially recognized the United States' independence. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty ended the war against the British for freedom. Country lines were set up with United States getting "excessively generous land". -
Shay's Rebellion
Shay and his rebellion attempted to seize weapons, which affected the debates at the Constitutional Convention. -
United States Consitution
The United States constitution was created. The constitution outlines how the government should be set up, who has power and how to balance it. It originally compromised seven articles. -

George Washington was the first president of the United States of America. He was a commander in the army before becoming more famously known as the president. -

The Bill of Rights was the first ten amendments to the constitution, outlining your rights as an American. -

The cotton gin was invented which had a huge impact on the production rate of cotton in the United States. -

The war of 1812 starts because of trade restrictions, and the United States also wanted to expand westward. -

The treaty of Ghent ends the War of 1812. The treaty took 1 month to get the news to the United States where is was ratified. -

He was re-elected with over 80% of the electoral vote. -

Was a policy that opposed European colonialism. This also dealt with foreign affairs in Europe. -
Indian Removal Act
The Indian Removal Act passed, removing Native Americans from their homeland and moving them to reservations. Andrew Jackson passed this Act, putting it into law 2 days later. -
Oregon Trail
The Oregon trail begins to be used by migrant settlers. It was eventually used by more than 400,000 people. -
Nat Turner Slave Rebellion
Nat Turner leads a very famous slave rebellion in Virginia, they kill 55-65 people. -

John C. Calhoun was a vice president of the United States and was most famously known for supporting slavery. He died to tuberculosis. -
