    Battle of Dien Bien Phu
    The Viet Minh launched a suprise attack on the French military bas, Dien Bien Phu. More than 12,000 French Solidgers surrendered, causing Eisenhower to seek action to stop communism from spreading to Vietnam.

    An agreement was signed and the fighting would stop, Vietnam was temporarily split on the 17th parallel. The fFrench would control the South.

    Ngo Dinh Diem made Diem regime, it limited religious freedoms for Buddhists since Ngo was Cathloic and had prejudice against Buddhists. As a form of protest, Buddhist monks would publicially burn themselves to show the corruption and brutality.
