  • Vietnam conquers the French command

    Vietnam conquers the French command
    On May 7, 1954, Vietnam wins battle against French Command which lasted 55 days. Many thousands of people were killed on both ends of the battle, however Vietnam executes the most killings!
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower is reelected

    Dwight D. Eisenhower is reelected
    On November 4, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower is reelected to a second term as President of the United States. With him being reelected he plays a very important role during the war.
  • First Killing

    First Killing
    On July 8, 1959, the first American soldier, Richard B. Fitzgibbon Jr. Air Force T-Sgt, to be killed.This killing quickly jumpstarted a series of events. After this killing, this meant actual war to be sparked between the U.S. and Vietnam.
  • Diem Survives Assassination Attempt

    Diem Survives Assassination Attempt
    On Feburary 27, 1962, two of the South Vietnamese VC pilots bomb Ngo Dinh Diem's presidential palace. Diem escapes the assassination attempt.
  • South Vietnamese Protest

    South Vietnamese Protest
    On May 8, 1963, the South Vietnamese police fight againts the protest being made against President Diem's ruling. President Diem was a catholic and began to oppress the Buddhist and half of the country. In this picture, a man sets up a ritual sucidie to protest agains the government.

    South Vietnamese General Duong Van Minh overthrew former President Diem! The following day, the General request execution of Diem and his brother.

    After recieving previous attacks from North Vietnam, the U.S. bombs North Vietnam for the first time.

    On April 15, 1967, there are over 100,000 people attend this rally where Dr. King speaks out about Vietnam War and foreign policy. The impact that he leaves in the U.S. jumpstarts ideas to sieze the war.

    During the end of the year of 1967, the amount of troops in combat increased by 485,000!
  • Preliminary Talk

    Preliminary Talk
    Ho Chi Minh's government declares it is prepared to talk about peace. Preliminary talks will begin in May, yet the U.S. troop level in Vietnam will continue to rise.
  • Ho Chi Minh Dies

    Ho Chi Minh Dies
    Ho Chi Minh Dies at the age of 79. He writes in his will that he wants to be embalmed in a Masouleum.
  • Cambodia Invasion

    Cambodia Invasion
    In a nationally televised broadcast, President Nixon announces that American and South Vietnamese units have invaded Cambodia to destroy bases that have provided aid to the NLF.
  • Congress Votes to Withdraw Troops

    Congress Votes to Withdraw Troops
    By the end of the year of 1971, the Houae and Senate vote to send the remaining troops back home. This war had become the longest war in history and was time to send the soldiers home
  • Vietnam Ceasefire Signed

    Vietnam Ceasefire Signed
    A peace treaty is signed between the U.S. and North/South Vietnam. U.S. agrees to withdraw combat troops, and the government of South Vietnam promises to hold free elections to allow its people to decide their future.
  • Vietnam War is officially over!

    Vietnam War is officially over!
    The last U.S. combat soldier leaves Vietnam, but military advisors and some Marines remain. Over 3 million Americans have served in the war, nearly 60,000 are dead, some 150,000 are wounded, and at least 1,000 are missing in action.
