Week 2 - The Renaissance (1300-1600)

  • Fede Galizia

    Fede Galizia
This oil canvas was painted for the church of San Gerolamo in Milan. Paolo Morigia was Fede’s earliest patron and supporter. The detail in this particular piece is breathtaking, she captures the age of the subject perfectly. The details also seen in the letter he is writing and, in the book, truly shows how invested the artist is in her pieces. The colors are a bit more muted and cooler, there aren’t many bright colors used, other than the white for his clothing.
  • Elisabetta Sirani

    Elisabetta Sirani
When I see this piece I think rebellion, the woman is pushing a man into a well, she is saying I'm done following rules of men. The look of her face is one of defiance. The tone for this piece is both dark and light. It is dark because she is killing a man, but it is also light because of why she is doing it, that is my opinion anyway. Elisabetta used more strong colors in this piece, and the detail in their faces and to the design on the well are extraordinary.
