    It is February 17 1801 and Thomas Jefferson has just been elected after a close tie in votes against Aaron Burr. This could change the entire future of America. Aaron Burr could've won this election, but the general public decided to choose Thomas Jefferson instead.

    1802 Ohio outlaws slavery. Though they still do prohibit Black people to vote. At the same time, James Callender makes the accusation that Thomas Jefferson has for a while had a concubine as a slave. This is another step in the right direction to freedom.
  • Lewis and Clark

    1803 Thomas Jefferson asks Congress for funds for an expedition to explore past the Mississippi river to search for a route to the Pacific. When Congress agrees, Meriwether Lewis begins to plan the expedition which will take place late 1803, he will also ask his old Military commander William Clark. This is mainly important because it is the beginning of the exploration of an entirely new world.

    Robert Livingston and James Monroe create a treaty of the cession in which the US purchases all of the Lousiana territory for 15 million dollars. This opens opportunity for a route to the Pacific to be a reality.

    Meriwether Lewis and William Clark depart on the Missouri River. This is the beginning of their long journy west to find a route to the Pacific.

    Jefferson gets re-elected by every state except for Connecticut, Delware, and Maryland. This means that the expedition for a route to the Pacific will still be ongoing.
  • Reached the Pacific

    The expedition led by Meriwether Lewis has finally reached the Pacific. Though there may not of been a real route to reach the Pacific Ocean, Lewis and Clark laid the groundwork for American expansion.
  • Election of John Quincy

    In 1825 John Quincy was elected after a vicious election competition with Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson did have the most votes, but it was not over 51%, so it was up to the House of Reps to decide who became president. In the House of Reps, John Quincy had many friends and connections. THis was part of the reason that Jackson felt the election was stolen from him.
  • Death of Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson dies on July 4th 1826. Coincidentally he wrote a letter a few months before his death to John Adams requesting he see his son, sadly John Adams died shortly after seeing his son.

    On March 4 1829, Andrew Jackson was finally elected president. This time he won by a landslide. Unfortunately soon after he became president, his wife had a heart attack and died.

    1829 March 4, Shortly after being elected president and completing the inauguration, Andrew Jackson returned to the white house with a huge drunk mob behind him which ended up destroying the entire place. The mob would not leave until offered punch and other liquids on the front lawn of the white house.

    Somewhere in 1830s the Underground Railroad was created. This is important because it helped slaves to escape, not only that but this is an event that leads to the civil war.

    Just one year before, gold had been found in the heart of the Cherokee land. Because of this, a year later Jackson signed an act to remove all of the Cherokee from their land which was illegal because they were their own country. Even the Supreme Court agreed that this was illegal, but Jackson did it anyways. He had the support of the western people and there was nothing the Supreme court could really do. The Cherokee people were now forced to walk the trail of tears.

    On December 5, 1832 Andrew Jackson was reelected for president of the United States. Once again, Jackson had won the hearts of the people by telling them he was protecting them against the wealthy elite.

    One May 28, 1844 the first telegraph message was sent from New York to Baltimore. This the beginning of being able to communicate from long distance. Instead of having to go all the way across the states to find someone, you could just telegraph them.

    On June 8th, 1845 Andrew Jackson passes away. He died of tuberculosis, dropsy, and heart failure. In result, the influence he had been using in politics was over.

    In 1848 January 24 gold was discovered in California. This caused people from all over the US and even from places like China, to sell everything they owned and leave their families in search of gold. Most never found a piece of gold. The people who got rich were the shop owners.

    On February 1848, after a long battle with Mexico we finally came to an agreement. The agreement was that we pay them $15 million and we would have a border. Not only that but they would give us about half of their territory, including California.

    California had so many different races of people that came for the gold rush, that they immediately became a state that was free. This annoyed the southern states who were mostly pro slavery.

    On May 10 1869 the first transcontintental railroad was completed. Finally, a 3000 mile journey that would usually take months or even years and could cost you your life, now would only take a couple of days. This more than anything enabled the settlement and conquest of the west.
