    Invasion as a result of the Marco polo incident, where conflict & fighting occurred between Japanese and Chinese troops. The invasion is when Japan has invaded China through the occupation of Manchuria. It happened b/c China has resisted Japan’s attempts of spreading their influence beyond their territory .It evoked high rates of nationalism within the Chinese societies & country suffered economically. Young men were drafted in the army, or taken for slave labor. Many people had fled their homes

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    The conquest of Poland was a huge deal to Hitler as he wanted to gain slaves & increase living space for his people. Hitler conquered Poland by sending German troops along its vast border of his German-controlled territory. He bombed their aircraft & attacked Polish’s naval force. Poland was split among Russia and Germany through a pact known as The German-Soviet Pact of August 1939. Poland suffered severely, it was used as a battleground between both countries throughout the war.

    For more than 2 years, Germany used a military tactic known as the “blitzkrieg” to conquer land in Europe. This was Hitler’s main strategy of war attack. Its is a surprise attack that is launched against a country. Hitler launched blitzkriegs b/c of his desire to raise Germany to power, take over Europe, expand Germany’s resources, & has felt that they were being restricted from by other European nations. Blitzkriegs caused the triggering of WW2, & destruction & conquer of several countries.
  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    A successful attempt by Hitler to take over France by launching a blitzkrieg through the Ardennes forest. Germany was able to break the Maginot Line of French defenses & forces were sent into Paris whose people & resistance had evacuated the city. The attack happened to seek revenge for Germany after France & Britain accepted Germany’s surrender in WW1 & signed the armistice, humiliating Germany. Italy later invades, sharing France with Germany. French were forced to sign the armistice too.
  • Operation Barbosa

    Operation Barbosa
    An operation held by Germany to attack the Soviet Union, breaking the nonaggression act between both countries. Hitler had attacked Russia b/c of his desire to win against its communism, increase German territory, gain resources, expand his military, & use the people of the Soviet Union as slaves for labor. The oil fields of Caucasus along with the field of the Ukraine also came to Hitler’s interests. Operation Barbosa was a turning point in WW2 causing Russia to join and ally with the allies.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    A surprise attack on headquarters of the US's Pacific Fleet by Japan whose forces assault the US & cause them to declare war on Japan. Japans attacks b/c they saw their naval base as a threat, wanted to increase its oil sector to be able to sustain their warfare, & b/c the US has placed restrictions on Japan after they have taken up most of South Pacific islands, & were increasing in power. This causes US to join WW2. They fought long in the Pacific Ocean, declaring Japan as an official enemy.
  • Manhattan Project

    Manhattan Project
    Largest secret program/project that was launched in WW2 by the US, developing a strong nuclear weapon with the support of Canada & Britain by an order signed by president Franklin Roosevelt of the US. The purpose of the project was to develop a tactic to defend them after the bombing of Pearl Harbor had occurred. US was able to come with the atomibc bomb. Impact of the project was the use of that bomb on Hiroshima & Nagasaki, causing Japan to surrender, destruction of cities, loss of many lives.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    A naval battle in WW2 fought almost entirely by aircraft, between the US & Japan, as the United States destroyed Japan’s first-line carrier strength & defeated their best-trained naval pilots. It occurred b/c of the Japanese’s attempts to seize Midway Island and bases in the Aleutians, interfering with US Pacific Fleet. Battle resulted in equality among naval forces of Japan & US, turning point of the military struggle b/w two countries, & was a turning point in the causing Japan to surrender.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    A battle between Germany and Russia in Stalingrad, Russia, that happened as a result of the attack on Stalin on Hitler as Soviet Union launched a massive offense attack against Germany. Stalin attacked because of Hitler's attempt to invade Russia through Stalingrad. This attack was a major turning point in WW2 and in the war in Europe as Russia officially joined the war. It also broke the non-aggression act between both Germany and Russia. The Soviet Union then joins the allies.
  • Warsaw Ghetto uprising

    Warsaw Ghetto uprising
    When Hitler sent SS troops to the largest Jewish ghettos in Nazi occupied Europe to terminate the Ghetto with their heavy weaponry and machinery. This attack was stimulated to keep the Nazis from dispatching more Jews to be murdered in Treblinka death camp and just finish them in one place. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was a disaster for the ghetto residents. The Nazis estimated that more than 100,000 people were killed, really putting a strain on the amount of Jews in Hitler occupied Europe.
  • Allied Invasion of Italy

    Its when the allied forces launched an invasion on Italy, starting by the British. Forces on the North would throw a net across the peninsula while British dealt with the Germans in Italy. It happened because the allies wanted to liberate Italy from German occupation after Italy has joined the allies, and wanted to go after Hitler. This lead to huge political problem in Italy later on, and lead to Mussolini's down fall, along with the end of Fascisim
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    A surprise evening attack by the British on Hamburg, Germany. It was a joint British-American venture. Britain dropped 2,000 tons of bombs on Hamburg on the course of hours. The purpose of the attack was to seek revenge from Germany after it had killed over 170 British civilians in German bombing raids in July. It had resulted in the loss of thousand of lives & the destruction of many more buildings. The bombing of Hamburg was the first time Nazis might have to call for peace.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Is known as the biggest sea invasion in History. It was an attack by the allies on Germany through the beaches of Normandy. The attack happened as a result of US joining the war, for they encouraged the allies on attacking. The allies wanted to end the war and decrease Germany's attempts of invasions. Its effect/impact was that it lead Germany to fight two front wars which they weren't able to handle, and eventually lost.
  • Operation Thunderclap

    Operation Thunderclap
    A bombing attack by the British & US air forces on Dresden, Germany. The war has already been over & Hitler was defeated. Britain and the US wanted to help Russia advance by wrecking the rear areas of the German east front. Also, allies wanted to demonstrate to the Germans that the air defenses of Germany were of little substance & that the Nazi regime had failed them. This attack lead to the wreckage of Dresden, making the German civilians suffer through morale and economically.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Was the first strike from the US to Japan, & was through both air & naval divisions, attacking the island through caves, tunnels, & underground systems. The US attacked b/c they needed a military base near the Japanese coast, to assist in the fighting of Japan after what they did to Pearl Harbor. This attack locked Japanese bases, making several bombing stripes successful, giving US the advantage of invading & wrecking their territories as well as triumph, & reserve airfield for nuclear attacks.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Also known as Operation Iceberg, it was a series of battles fought in the Ryukyu Islands, centered on the island of Okinawa. Allied forces engage Japan in the bloodiest/amphibious assault battle of the Pacific war. It happened b/c Okinawa was a well defended island that the US needed to capture as they advanced across the Pacific towards Japan. Impacts include: several casualties, loss of valuable war materials/crafts, & contributed to 3-point plan the US had for winning the war in the Far East

    VE - Day
    Its the day that mars the end of the war in Europe, when German troops in Europe finally laid down their arms and surrendered. It happened because of the several loses the axis powers, Japan and Germany, were undergoing as a result of the axis' tactics.Also, the joining of Italy to the allied powers. The impact of this day was the unconditional surrender of Germany that was signed at at Rheims, and the the split of Germany among the allies power, with the Soviet Union occupying its majority.

    The atomic bomb was dropped by the US twice, both on Japan. The first bomb, little boy, was dropped on Hiroshima. The second one, Fat man, was dropped hours later on Nagasaki. US dropped the atomic bombs on Japan to seek revenge for what they have done at the attack of Pearl Harbor, and to make Japan surrender, leading to the end of WW2. The impacts of the atomic bombs lead to the surrender of Japan, thousand of casualties, destruction, & harmful radiation effects that are still present today.

    VJ day is the day that marked the end of the war in Japan, and the victory of the US. VJ happened when Japan has surrendered agreeing to sign the Postdam declaration, ending WW2. The surrender was a result of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan. The effect of the VJ day is ending the war in the pacific and WW2.

    When Hitler tried to divide up the allied forces, that have made their way to France to attack the Germans, by launching a Blitzkrieg through the Ardennes to Antwerp on the US troops, who were unprepared. US manages to repair front & overcome him. It emerged for Hitler wanted a counterattack against allied forces, triumph, & drive a wedge b/w US & British armies & recapture the port of Antwerp s to deny Allies use of port facilities. Results: casualties, loss of of weapons & defeat of Germans.
