    White House First Built
    George Washington was tasked with finding the perfect site to build the White House. George Washington was also the only president that did not get to live in the White House. He requested design ideas, and James Hobans idea won.
  • Burning of the White House

    British troops invaded and burned the White House. Dolley Madison was able to rescue a portrait of George Washington from the fire. Did you know that the troops actually sat down to have dinner in between?
  • Roosevelt Remodels

    President Roosevelt remodeled the White House. The total amount of money for the remodel was $475,445
  • A New East Wing

    Construction of a new East Wing was underway. The East Wing is built over a currently existing underground air raid seller during WW2.
  • Trumans West Wing

    President Truman planned to expand the West Wing, and had all the plans drawn out. Now, he was just waiting for approval.
  • Trumans Balcony

    The West Wing Expansion plan did not pass approval. Truman, very irritated, planned to build a balcony for himself above the South Hall. These plans for construction passed approval, and the balcony was built with out problem.
  • Big Renovation

    Truman ripped out and gutted the White House. It needed to be redone, and make sure its structurally sound and safe. This HUGE project took 4 years and 4 months to complete.
  • Going Solar

    President Jimmy Carter added 32 solar panels to the roof of the white house.
  • Oval Office

    The Obamas have volunteered to pay their own money, to build a Second Oval Office.
