    While serving in the British Calvary, Winston Churchill participated in what came to be known as the "last effective british calvary charge" at the battle of Omdurman in the Sudan.     Churchill ascended to the rank of Prime minister of the United Kingdom on May 10, 1940. Less than a week later he addressed House of Commons in parliament for the first time.     Throughout the course of WWII, Churchill voiced his disdain for working with the Soviet Union. He knew that after the war ended, another struggle would begin between the forces of Communism and Capitalism. He also knew that the Soviets would occupy the territory that they gained during the war. In a speech to a college in Missouri he stated, "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent" ("The Sinews of Peace)
