    Slaves revolt againsst Spanish rule for the first time, although the rebellion was quickly and harshly suppressed.

    French settlers began to occupy wester Hispaniola.
  • British and French settlers

    British and French settlers occupied the western third of Hispaniola, and threatened Spain's claim about the island and the colonial empire. The three of them battled each other until the end of the Haitian Revolution.

    French started tobacco production, but the proccess of producing tobacco required too many labor. So the colonists began importing more slaves from Africa.

    San Martin

    Simon Bolivar had a military carrer in Spain. In 1816, San Martin was promoted as the chief of the military. Also in 1817, February 5, San Martin was offered dictatorship, but he declined. He was called as the "Knight of the Andes" by the Argentinans. Simon Bolivar and San Martin met in Guayaquil. Simon wanted democracy but, Martin said that they weren`t ready, they had weak armies and were vulnerable for European countries, had weak democracy, became corrupt and also depended to the U.S.

    Simon Bolivar

    He was called as "The Liberator". Simon Bolivar is a Venezuelan leader who was instrumental in the revolutions against the Spanish Empire. His family was wealthy and influential as far as Creole blood was concerned, when his father died. He met his wife Doña Maria Rodriguez de Toro when he was studying the orthodox education, and got married in 1802. When Maria died, Bolivar went to Europe to escape from the pain. He in Italy and France, and had the opportunity to meet Napoleon Bonaparte.

    This day was when the african slaves, of Saint Domingue rebelled themselves. This was when the Haitian Revolution begins.
  • L´Ouverture vs Spanish

    At first the rebels allied with the Spanih but when the new French abolished slavery, L´Ouverture led the fight against the Spanish.
  • Haiti Independence

    Jean-Jacques Dessalines lead a revolt following the capture of L’Ouverture, but instead a horrific war broke out where both sides (Haitians killed Europeans and French killed blacks.
    During the war France could not call their troops and suffered fever in their camps.Finally Haiti wins the war in November 1803.

  • Independence of South Argentina

    When San Martin heard about the revolution in Argentina and went back to join the patriot forces. In 1812, San Martin granted independence of South Argentina.

    On his return, Simon found Venezuela in the midst of a revolution. Bolivar assisted to the revolution writing letters to the conspirators, but in 1814 he failed and was forced in exile for a time.

    In 1821, a revolution in Spain allowed creoles to declare their independence, Agustin de Iturbide was a military leader that named himself as the emperor of Mexico.
    Then in 1823, Iturbide was pulled down and Mexico became a democratic republic.

    After the meeting of 1822 with another great liberator.Simon Bolivar was elected as the president of Peru.
