  • Yalta

    Yalta
    Yalta Conference was when British, American, and Russian forces came together to figure out with would happen after WW2. They also agreed that Germany should have to and Stalin agreed to allow free elections in Eastern Europe. This effected the war because in the conference Stalin said he would allow free elections but when the cold war came around he changed his mind.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    It was when the cold war was officially declared. This effected the war because it showed that the war was truly happening now and it was more real for people.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was made to help countries that didn't want to be taken over by the Soviets. They gave $13 billion to countries. This effected the war by making tensions higher between the countries.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under Western control. The Soviets offered to drop the blockade if the Western Allies withdrew the newly introduced Deutsche mark from West Berlin. This effected the war by making both sides of war angry.
  • Soviets First Successful Nuclear Test

    Soviets First Successful Nuclear Test
    The Soviets set off their first nuclear bomb that actually worked. This impacted the war because it scared the United States and the people living there.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlifts happened when Stalin called for the borders to Berlin to be blocked off so America couldn’t get food and supplies to their people. This caused them to come up with the plan to just fly over the food and supplies instead of driving it. This Effected the war because it made the Russians realize that it was pointless to try and block America because they would find another way around it.
  • Joseph Stalin dies

    Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviets in Russia. He imposed many laws that were seen as unnecessary. He did not allow works of art or books that did not help him gain power.
  • Space Race

    Space Race
    The Soviets and the Allies fight to see who can reach space first. They did this to see who has the best missiles and other technology. This impacted the war by seeing who could advance fastest and if they could get to space they would be able to take satellite pictures.
  • U-2 Incident

    U-2 Incident
    A spy plane from America was sent over Russia and then it was shot down by the Soviets. This impacted the war by the tensions getting higher because of them taking the the flyer captive.
  • Kennedy Elected

    Kennedy Elected
    Kennedy showed leadership throughout the years he was in office and he tried to stop a nuclear war from happening with Nikita Khrushchev. This impacts the war because it showed how the people involved int he war were trying to end it.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    American forces landed at the bay of pigs and as they landed they were met with attacks from the Cuban military. This caused their forces to be destroyed and they gave up. This impacted the war because it made the Americans realize they weren't invincible.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin.
  • Spy Swap

    Francis Gary Powers from the U-2 incident was set free to the United States in exchange for Soviet agent Rudolf Abel to be sent back to Russia. This impacted the war because it showed that the two countries could be civil in compromise.
  • Nixon Elected

    Nixon was the first president to visit the Republic of China and he looked to improve relations with the Soviet Union. This impacted the war because there was a new president that could change the entire outcome of the war.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, and in Vietnam as the Resistance War Against America or simply the American War, was a conflict that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
  • Mikhail Gorbachev comes to power

    Mikhail Gorbachev comes to power
    Took over power within 3 hours of the last ruler dying. He faced criticism by many different parties in Russia and had strong relations with Brittan. This influenced the war because there was a new person in charge that could change the entire war.
  • Nakita Khrushchev comes to power

    Nakita Khrushchev comes to power
    When Khrushchev came into power he changed many of radical policies that Stalin had. He allowed works of art and literacy to be made again but he made some bad decisions when it came to political decisions. This impacted the war because now America didn’t know what Khrushchev would do because he was so different from Stalin.
  • INF Treaty

    INF Treaty
    The INF Treaty eliminated all nuclear and conventional missiles, as well as their launchers, with ranges of 500–1,000 kilometers
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    This freed the people of Berlin and they were allowed to cross the border and do as they pleased. The people threw parties in the streets and drank to celebrate their new freedom. Then more than 2 million people from East Berlin ran through the gates separating them from the free West Berlin and visited for the first time. This impacted the war because it showed that the end was coming and that the Soviet Union would fall.
  • U.S.S.R Breakup

    U.S.S.R Breakup
    The Soviet Union didn’t have enough resources to go around to their people so that helped in their downfall. Also President Reagan of the United States economically attacked them. When Gorbachev’s reforms didn’t work they started to fall to the hands of the Allies and eventually lost the cold war and broke up the U.S.S.R. This impacted the war because it meant it was now over.
