  • Thesis Statement

    For Slaves, the Haitian revolution was a path way of success for future natives. For the French it was anger that they lost. The Haitian Revolution and the Enlightenment are alike through wars leaders laws.
  • The law by Locke was created

    Citizens are born with life, liberty, and property. So basically these black slaves had rights and had liberty by Locke's laws. This made them feel like they had some of there power back and helped them up-rise (Popkin).
  • Whites take rights from Mulattoes and Black men

    In 1758, white people with power started restricting laws to mulattoes and black men through a rigid class system. (geni)
  • Rousseau Social Contract was Published

    The Social contract was created which stated The government is for people not against them. The people at any time have the right to back out and create there own government. This is what the smart slaves and leaders of the Haitian Revolution used for there successful revolt (Popkin)

  • Entering Bastille

    An mad crowd armed with muskets, swords and various makeshift weapons gathered around the Bastille. They attacked the prison and liberated 6 men. They also stole weapons and munitions which they later used in the revolution.
  • The French Revolution Begins

    The French Revolution Begins
    Bastille is stormed by citizens of Paris, showing the beginning of the French revolution and the end of the French monarchy. As a result the equality and liberty are prevelent in the French society. The rights of slaves and colored people were an issue, and this triggered in the minds of the Haitians that they can uprise and prove their power.
