  • Russian army defeated at Tannenburg and Masurian Lakes

    The Germanys pushed the Russian army back out of Germany during this event. The Russians were defeated but couldn't be pushed back any farther. This battled happened because Russia went into Prussia with the plan to attack the East Prussian salent.

    The purpose of this battle was to bring an end to the war movement that has dominated the first world war. This battle also happened because Germany had made its way into France.

    They started trench warfare because the soldiers were protected from bullets and fire from the opponents. This was most popular during World War 1.

    This was the Russian empires greatest win during WWI. This was also one of the most lethal. The City of Verdun went under Siege by the Germans. The French worked with other allies in attempt to force German resources and attention from the problems at Verdun.

    This battle was the one that had the most casualties. This was the first major operation launched by the British Army on the Western front. People argue over whether this battle speed up German defeat.
  • First use of tanks at the Somme

    These tanks were able to go about a mile into enemy lines but failed to hold their positions because they were to slow. Tanks caused the heaviest amount of British casualties in British history.
  • Submarine Warefare

    The submarines were used to sink vessels without warning. Germany used submarines to pressure the United States along with their allies even though they had made a pact to no longer use submarines the Germans did it anyway because they had felt threatened.

    This agreement ended fighting on the Western Front. This was between the allies and Germany. Many people felt that the Armistice was only temporary.

    This was a peace treaty between Bolshevik government of Russia and the Central Powers this ended Russia participation in the war.

    This was the official date of the end of World War I. This happened at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This was an agreement for them to stop fighting.

    This peace conference happened post-war. There were long and complicated negotiations that went on during this. This took about six months to get wrote up. Germany was not happy with the treaty when they were finally included in the treaty in May.
