    Japan invaded Manchuria. League of Nations appeased to Japan to make them stop invading Manchuria. With the result of Treaty of Portsmouth, Japan had part of the South Manchuria Railway branch. However, League of Nations wanted to make them stop. Japan saw the economic benefits of Manchuria and didn’t want to lose this opportunity. They left Leage of Nations and joined the opposing forces, Germany and Italy.
  • Rape of Nanking

    Japanese army forces murdered the people of China in the Chinese city of Nanking. Tons of women were sexually-assaulted. The Japanese leader made sure no Chinese people left the area. A group of Western businessmen and missionaries set up a neutral area for Chinese refugees in the Nanking City. The Chinese government abandoned rule and allowed the new group to take over.

    Germany and the Soviet Union sign a non-aggression treaty.Which then leads to Germany invading Poland which begins the second world war in Europe. Britain and France responded to Germany’s attack by declaring war on Germany. Within a month Germany and the Soviet forces conquer Poland.

    The name given to Germany’s invasion of Soviet Union in Russia. It was the largest military attack of World War II. Despite, massive advances Hitler’s plan to conquer the Soviet Union failed. The Soviet Union attacked back after a while. This period of time allowed Germany’s military to stabilize and allowed them to conquer the outskirts of Caucasus, Europe.

    The Japanese launch a surprise attack on the United States in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The United States was unprepared and was quick to defend themselves. Around 2,300 Americans were killed and near 1,500 were injured. After the attack Japan declared war on the United States.The following day President Roosevelt gave a speech and signed a declaration of war against Japan. Within the next few days Nazi Germany and Italy also declared war on the United states.

    Nazi’s official meeting for the solution about the Jews. Various proposals discussed in this meeting for the Jews included mass sterilization and deportation to the island of Madagascar. Heydrich proposed transporting Jews to concentration camps in Poland and working them to death.

    Soviet soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners in the final stages of the war. The Soviets entered the Majdanek camp in Poland, and overran several other killing centers. The island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location because the US needed a place for fighter planes and bombers to land and take off when attacking Japan. After 36 days of brutal fighting, the US had finally secured the island of Iwo Jima.

    Operation Iceberg, formed a part of the Pacific War during World War II. Fought in the spring of 1945, it was the biggest amphibious assault in that theater. The battle resulted in victory for the Allies, with huge casualties on the Japanese army. This proved to be almost the last serious defense of Japanese territory before the end of the war in August.
