Germnany's Invasion of Poland
Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union invaded Poland. Hitler wanted to do this because he thoght this would expand the living space for the German people. This triggered the start of WWII. -
German Blitzkrieg
A German military tacted that was known to be fast and effective. It translated to "lightening war." It was first used in the invasion of Poland. The Germans wanted an easier way to win battles. This resulted in Germany being able to quickly overun most of Europe. -
Fall of Paris
Also known as the battle of France, the allied forces were driven out by the Germans which resulted in the fall of the Third French Republic. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese military fleet invaded Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by surprise in result of the U.S. cutting off their trade. The U.S. then officiallly declared war on Japan. -
Battle of Midway
Naval battle between the U.S. and Japan in the Pacific ocean. The U.S. won and then controlled the Pacific. -
D-Day
U.S. French and Canadian forces invaded Normandy with a goal to end the war which resulted in the independence of the French Republic. -
Battle of the Bulge
A major German offensive campaign that attempted to split allied forces, but resulted in an allied victory. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The U.S. wanted to capture the island of Iwo Jima because it would soon give them a point of advantage in the war. They fought against the Japanese imperial army and which resulted in a large loss of Japanese forces. -
Battle of Okinawa
The U.S. fought a series of battles fought in the Ryuku islands targeting Japanese forces and resulted in an allied victory. -
VE-Day
Stands for (Victory in Europe Day) and celebrates Europes victory after the battle of Britain. This was after Germany surrendered. It resulted in mass celebration in Europe. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
The American bomber called the Enola Gay dropped a five-ton attomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan in response to Pearl Harbor. Japan was forced to surrender and the destruction of Hiroshima left a mark on the world forever. -
VJ-Day
The official surrender of Japan was announced to the world which was held in Tokyo. It sparked worldwide celebration and officially ended the second world war.
