They served during WW1 and WW2, the first women contributers were as nurses, known as "nursing sisters." 50 000 women in total served in the air force, army, and the navy.
  • The Murmansk Run

    The Murmansk Run
    <a href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06GoFoSSvAw' ></html>video</a>41 allied convoys sailed to to soviet port of Murmansk during the war. Ships departed from North American ports such as Halifax or New York then sailed to the northern Soviet Union, this route became known as the Murmansk Run. Germans threw the full weight of their air and army force against the convoys. More than 20% of all cargo was lost. One convoy lost 24 out of 33 ships. The harsh artic weather also took a toll as well.
  • Defence of Hong Kong

    Defence of Hong Kong
    <a href='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoNbYkEUDzc' ></html>video</a>In 1941, Canadian soldiers were sent to Hong Kong because it was vulnerable, therefore easy to attack. The Royal Rifles and Winnipeg Grenadiers arrived in Hong Kong on November 16. On December 8, the Japanese attacked Hong Kong. On the 18th, Japan crossed the mainland and invaded the island. Christmas Day, the Canadians had no choice but to surrender. The Canadians became prisoners of war, and were prisoners for more than 3½ years after war. <ahref='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoNbYkEUDzc'
