Archduke Francis Ferdinand Assassinated

1. Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife were riding in a car when all of sudden a Serbian nationalist threw a bomb right at their car.
2. Archduke and his wife set off a chain of events, like the government blaming the Serbians.

Austria-Hungary Declares War on Serbia

Jul 28, 1914

1. They declared war on Serbia a month after Archduke and his wife were killed in the bombing.
2. Austria warned Serbia of possible assassinations.

Germany Declares War on France

Aug 3, 1914

1. Only two days after declaring war on Russia, Germany decides to war with France as well.
2. This even occured right before the attack on Archduke and his wife.

Germany Invades Belgium

Aug 4, 1914

1. This created unemployment and families being broken up.
2. Germany wanted free passage through Belgium.

German U-Boats Sink the Lusitania

May 7, 1915

1. The Lusintania was carrying 173 tons of ammunition and other war things.
2. On February 22, Congress went over $250 million to be ready for war.

The Zimmerman Note is Discovered

Jan 31, 1917

1. The telegram was supposed to be a ally peace treaty between Mexico and Germany, that if the U.S wanted to war, that Germany would stick by Mexico's side.
2. Soon after, Russia never opposed or spoke of U.S entering in war.

Germany Announces Unrestricted Submarine Warfare

Feb 1, 1917

1. Unrestricted warfare was first brought in 1915.
2. President Wilson sent a very well written note to Germany to demand to end the German attacks.

The United States Declares War on Germany

1. Germany started submarine warfare.
2. American was scared of war because they feared it might change them.

The Russian Monarchy is Overthrown

Nov 7, 1917

1. Allies of the Bolsheivk tried to overthrow the government, but were fiercly defeated by the Bolsheivk Red Army.
2. Bolsheivk soldiers took members of the government into custody which was held at the Winter Palace.
