    Born in Poland, Spiegelman was a survivor of the Holocaust and of Nazi labor camps. Moved tothe U.S. sometime after the war. His son, Art, later makes him the subject Maus, a graphic novel depicting Vladek's experiences leading up to and during the Holocaust and WWII.

    Romanian born Jewish-American Holocaust survivor. Born in Sighet, taken in 1944 from his, separted from his mother and sisters, and forced into work camp Buna with his father. Only member of his family to have survived the wok camps. Became well known for his writings of his accounts in labor camps. Earned a Nobel Peace Prize after writing Night in 1955. Still alivwe today at the age of 84.
