  • Rape of Nanking

    Rape of Nanking
    Nanking is the capital of China and the Chinese government flees to Hankow, along with the Yangtze River. Japanese General Matsui Iwane ordered that the city of Nanking had to be destroyed. Alot of city were burned and Japanese troops launched a campaign of crime against civilians. Which was named the "Rape of Nanking." Right after the World War II ended the Matsui was found guilty of war crimes by the Inernational Military Tribunal.

  • Germany's invasion of Poland

    Germany's invasion of Poland
    The German bombed Polish airfields, and German warships and U-boats attacked Polish naval forces in the Baltic Sea. On September 3, they declared war on Germany, and that made World War II. In Aug. 31, Hitler ordered hostilies against Poland to begin the next morning,Nazi S.S, troops waering Polish uniforms staged an invasion of Germany, and damsing several minor installations on the Germans side of the border. It ended in Oct.6, 1939.

    German Blitzkrieg
    Military strategy are known as the Blitzkrieg or lightning war. German forces tried out the blitzkrieg in Poland in 1939 before successfully employing the tactic with invasion of Belium, the Netherland and France in 1940. The Blitzkrieg was also used by German commander Erwin Rommel during the North African campaign of World War II, and adopted by U.S. Gerneral George Patton for his army's Eurpeans operations.

    Hitler launched his armies in the eastward in a massive invasion of the Soviet Union, they are three great army groups with over 3 million German soldiers, 150 divisons, and 3 thousand tanks smashed across the frontier into Soviet territory. Barbarossa was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germany to fight a two front war against a coalition possessing immensely superior. This ended Dec. 5, 1941.

    Pearl Harbor
    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. This lasted 2 hours, but it was devastating, also the Japanese managed to destroy over 20 American naval vessels, including 8 enormous battleships, and more than 300 airplanes. Three days later Japanese allied Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States, and again Congress reciprocated. Two years later America joined World War II.

    The Nazi officially met to dicuss the details for Jewish questions. Later on the gas vans in Chelmno, Poland, which killed about 1,000 people a day, proved to be the solution they were looking for the most efficient means of killing large groups of people at one time.     The Battle of Midway was one of the most decisive U.S. victories against Japan during World War II began. Alot of German souls cought up in the Battle of Stalingrad,160,000 died with some 80,000 lost to conditions of the weather and a lack of food.

    Warsaw Ghetto uprising
    The Nazis rounded up over 400,000 Jews in Warsaw, Poland and put them in ghettos. Living conditions were very poor, and nearly 100,000 Jews died within 2 years of being put in these ghettos. Some of the Jews started making their own weapons and digging their own underground bunkers and using the sewer system t get around. They were trying to avoid being sent to forced labor camps. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began fully on April 19, 1943. The uprising ended on May 16, 1943.

    Operation Gomorrah
    This lasted 8 days and 7 nights. In 1943, British bomers raid Hamburg, Germany, by night in Operation Gomorrah, while the Americans bomb it by day in its own Blits Week. The explosive power was the equivalent of what German bombers had dropped on London in their five most destructive raids. Over 1,500 German civilians were killed in the frist British raid.

    The German created a Bulge surrounding the area of Ardennes forest. The Germans launched their major offensive of the war, Operation Mist, also know as the Ardennes Offensive and the Battle of the Bulge. The Germans threw away 250,000 soiders into the initial assault. Three weeks later the results in a massive loss of American and civilian life. The murder of 72 American soldiers by SS soldiers in the Ardennes town of Malmedy.

    Battle of Okinawa
    This battle ended in June 22, 1945. Japan had lost more than 77,000 soldiers and the allies had suffered more than 65,000 casualtie and included 14,000 dead. They used pillboxes, strongpoints, caves, and some ancient castles, the Japanese defense positions supported one another and often resisted even the most determined artillery fire or air strikes.

Only 1 million Germans attemted to have the West when the fighting in Czechoslovakia ended but they were stopped by the ussians and taken captive.     Dropping of the atomic bombs
    An American B-29 bomber called the "Enola Gay", drops the world's first atom bomb, over the city of Hiroshima. It killed 80,000 people and injured 35,000. On August 5 a conventional bombing of Japan was by "Little Boy" which is a nickname for one of two atom bombs. Little Boy was dropped five and half hours later and when it was exploded 1,900 feet over a hospital and they unleashing the equivalent of 12,500 for TNT.

    VJ-Day stands for Victory Over Japan or they aslo called it Victory in Japan. Japan had surrendered to the allies and effectively ending the World War II. When Japan's formal surrender took place aboard to the U.S.S. Missouri. Months later the surrender of Nazi Germany, in the Pacific they brought six years of hostilities to a final and highly close.
