    Stalin began the Great Purge on Soviet CItizens and the U.S.cuts tariffs on foreign goods to benefit trade and international relations. Also Hitler now is Chancellor and Presaident.

    Congress passes the first Neutrality Act banning the asle of sale of arms to countries at war. Also Mussolini invaded the independent African kingdom of Ethiopia. Hitler revealed Germany's illegal rearment, he had reason to believe that the Allis would not wnforce the treaty.

    Italy conquered Ethiopia. The depression in Germany had ended and Hitler signed an alliance with the Itallian dictator, Mussolini.

    Germany and Italy provided planes, tanks, and soldiers to the Nationalists. Their aid attracted international attantion when Hitler's Condor Legion bombed the northern Spanish town of Guernica into ruins. Alos Marco Polo Bridge incident led Japan to invade China.

    Chamberlin and Hitler meet at the Munich Conference. After Austria's chancellor refused to surrender his country to Germany, Hitler ordered German troops into the country.

    Congress repealed the arms embargo. Also the invasion of Poland begins World War II. The nationalists army finally took the Spanish capital of Madrid and ended the civil war. Hitler promised that the Sudetenland was all that he wanted.

    Germany defeats France and attacks Britian. Roosevelts sends 50 destryoers to Britian in exchange for military bases in the western Hemisphere. Stalin had acheived his goal of turning the Soviet Union into a modern industrial power. Germany launched the Blitzkriegon the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxemburg.

    Roosevelt proposes the lend-lease program to aid allies. Japan bombs Pearl Harbor and brings th United States into the war. General Tojo Hideki became prime minister.
