    Japanese invades China
    Wanting to cement their position was a world power, Japan drew out of the legue of nations of starting invading other countries. Japan desired the land and natural resourses of China, so they invaded and occupied Manchura before starting an attack on the mainland of China. The LON could do nothing about it, and Japan left the LON followed soon by Germany. This inivertly caused Germany to go rouge and start WWII
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland
    Hitler wanted to gain back the land lost by Germany after WWI, so he attacked Poland from the air and with troops on land. This was the frist try of Hitler's Blitzkrieg stradgety. This invasion officialy started WWII.

    Blitzkreig was a German war stragety to bomb the living snot out of a city, and then imedietly invade with group troups. The first attack crippled the city so they couldnt protect against the groupd troops, making the city easy to invade and occupy. Hitler used this strategy to quickly take over lots of land in Europe and make WWII the bloodiest war in human history.
  • Fall of Paris

    In 1940 Hitler and his troops marched into Paris and took control.By the time German tanks arrived in Paris, 2 million citizens had fled. America refused to send troops, but promised material aid. Before this invasion there had been fighting in Europe, but Britain and France hadn't seen any actual battles. This invasion brought Britain and France into the actual fighting of WWII, and truly made it a World War.

    Operation Barbarossa was the code name for Germany invading the Soviet Union. It was an attempted blitzkreig battle, but i didnt not work out that way. This battle was a critical truning point in the war for it forced Germany to finally fight a two- front war instead of just one .Hitler was able to fight both fronts and take many prisoners, but by the time the path to Moscow was open, the fridgid weather drove the German troops back.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    December 7, 1941. In the early morning hours Japan staged a 2 wave attack on the American navy base, Pearl Harbor. Hundreds of bombs were dropped on the base, killing over 2,000 Americans and sinking many naval ships. Japan did not send their third wave, allowing many ships to survive and sail back to California for repairs. This attack caused the U.S. to delcare war on Japan. This in turn caused Germany to declare war on America, effectivley pulling the U.S. into WWII
  • Bataan Death March

    The U.S. surrendered the Bataan peninsula to the Japanese. After the surrender, 75,000 American troops and Filipino citzens were forced to march 65 miles to prison camps. During the 5 days the trek took, the marchers were starved and beaten, and the ones unable to march were killed. Thousands perished. A japanese general was held responsible for the death march, and was executed in 1946.
  • Battle of Midway

    6 months after Pearl Harbor, the U.S. delt a serious blow to the Japan navy. America delt permanent damage to the Japan navy. This blow was a cruicial truning point in the war against the Pacific. The vicotry allowed the U.S. to get a foothold in the offensive front of the war. America was able to hit Japan fleets so hard becuase they broke Japanese codes, enabling the U.S. army to know Japan's exact war plan.

    The battle of Stalingrad was Germany fighting for control of an important Soviet citry. The Soviets succesfuly protected and rematined in control of Stalingrad.The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the bloodiest battles in world history, with casualties of about 2 million. The battle is consitered the turning point of WWII on the Eastern front. The loss denied Germany a crutial hit in their campain, and crippled the Nazi fight.
  • Warsaw Ghetto uprising

    Warsaw Ghetto uprising
    In 1942 300,000 Jews were deported to and killed in the Warsaw Ghetto. For the remaining deportation seemed invevitable. In protest to deportation, an undergound movement created their own army. There were about 750 lightly armed Jews ready to fight the Germans. When the Germans ordered all able bodied Jews to go to consentration camps, the underground resistance fought back. Most of the Jew died fighting, but the attack allowed many to escape
  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    The operation was the code name for the bombing and compleate destruction of Humburg. Britian bombed through the night and Americans bombed through the day. Britian had sustained consiterable casualties from German bombing, and this was the revenge. In just a few hours, 2,300 bombs had been dropped on Hamburg. The bombs killed 30,000 people and destroyed 280,000 buldings. THe Germans began to desair and expect deafeat. The Germans slowly lost faith in Hitler.

    This invasion started the two month battle of Normandy. 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on a 50-mile stretch of the french coast The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. By August, all of Northern France had been liberated from German controll, and and by spring, the Germans were defeated. D-day was the "begining of the end of the war in Europe"
  • Liberation of concentration camps

    Liberation of concentration camps
    Starting in July of 1944, Americans, Canadians, English, and Soviet forces becan marching into consentration camps all over Europe and liberating Hitler's captives. Germans tried to hide the evidence of murder by burning their crematories but in their haste left the gas chambers standing. Tens of thousands or sick, tired, starved, and beated captives were liberated from hundreds of camps all over Europe. Any Germans found were tried and convicted for their war crimes

    The battle was the start of the German ‘Ardennes Offensive’ It was the US’ biggest battle in history, involving 600,000 American troops. This was Hitler’s last attempt to regain tracktion. Hitler attempted to split the Allied troops in half. The allied win lead to the neutralization of the German counteroffensive

    Operation thunderclap was the name for the operation to bomb German cities. The plan was to bomb eastern German cities to disrupt German transport. The plan was never put into action.

    This battle was the amphibious American invasion of Iwo Jima. After a month of fighting, the Americans beat the 23,000 Japanese soldiers.This battle won the U.S. a key island for a naval base. the new base allowed U.S. bomber planes to refuel between attacks on Japan and their home base.

    This battle was the last and biggest battle in the Pacific. At stake were air bases vital to the projected invasion of Japan. The battle lasted 82 days, and Japan lost 77,000 soldiers and the Allies suffered more than 65,000 casualties. In the end the U.S. won and claimed the vital island for a naval base.

    Victory in Eurpoe day was a national holiday to celebrate the defeat of the Nazis. VE day was the official day that Nazi troops in Europe surrendered and withdrew. The Germans sought to elude capture by the soviets, but 2 million German soldiers were taken prisoner by the Soviet. In constrast, 13,000 British prisoners of war were released
  • Hiroshima

    In 1945 near the end of WWII, an American plane dropped the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. This attack was in retaliation of the attack on Pearl Harbor 4 years prior that killed more than 2,000 American soldiers. The bomb killed 80,00 Japanses people on impact and tens of thousands later died of radiation exposure. The bomb destroyed 90% of the city. Three days later another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.Days later the emeror of Japan announced the unconitional surrender of Japan.

    VJ day was the day that Japan surrendered in the war against the U.S.It was the official end of WWII. VJ stands for "Victory over Japan" day. There was an official surrender ceremony on the USS Missouri in Tokyo bay.
