    Hitler wanted to regain lost terriotry and rule Polamd. The Polish forces were under-equipped and outnumbered.
    Involved: Germany, Free City of Danzig, Slovak Republic, Soviet Union, and Poland
    This resulted in German and Soviet victory which was beginning of World War II
  • Battle of France

    Battle of France
    Location: France
    Germany pushed through Ardennes and then to Somme valley to cut off Allied powers. British government withdrew BEF and Germany went into Paris. An armistice was signed between France and Germany.
    Involved: Germany, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland
    This resulted in a German Victory and Fall of French Third Republic
  • Battle of Britain

    Location: British airspace
    First battle to be fought only by air forces. Germany wanted Britain to agree to peace treaty. The Luftwafffe attacked places of political significance and terror bombing. The British stopped Hitler from invading Britain with air force bombs.
    Invovled: Royal Aif force, Roual Canadian Air force, Luftwaffe, Regia Aeronautica.

    Japanese warplanes attacked the base of American Pacific fleet in Hawaii. This led the U.S into WWII. A day after Pearl Harbor U.S declared war on Japan.

    This resulted in Japanese victory and U.S entry into WWII.
  • Philippines surrender to Japanese

    Location: Philippines
    The Japanese used their best troops to overrun the Philippines. The withdraw of troops enabled the Americans to hold out for four more months.

    This resulted in a Japanese victory.

    This was six months after Pearl Harbor and one of the most decisive naval battles of WWII. The United States decoded the Japan's plan and attacked the Japanese Navy.

    This was fought between the Axis forces. The British stopped an adcance by the Axis forces into Egypt. Axis powers were too close to the cities of Egypt and too far from their own base.

    This resulted in stalemate and strategic Allied victory.

    The Allied powers wanted to take Tulagi. U.S marines created a surprise attack and took control of an air base under construction.

    This resulted in a strategic Allied victory and Beginning of Allied offensive operations in the Pacific.

    It was a battle between Germany and the Soviet Union for Stalingrad. The Germans were stopped by the resistance of the Red Army.

    Location: Sicily, Italy
    It was a six-week land campaign and the beginning of Italian Campaign. Allies went through Axis air. Mediterranean sea lanes were finally opened to Allied Merchant ships. Hitler wanted to reduce forces to Italy by canceling a major offensive at Kursk.

    This resulted in Allied powers victory.

    The largest seaborne invasion and leading up to this, Allies misled the Germans of the date and location of Allied landings. Allied troops were blew in the wrong direction and landed in heavy gunfire. Allies started to expand.
    Involved: United Kingdom, U.S, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Free France, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, and Germany.
    This resulted in Allied victory.

    The Allied forces were caught off guard. Tons of casualties on the U.S and Germany's forces were depleted. Germany attacked a weaker part of the Allies which blocked their access to import roads. Allies air attacked Germans forces and supply lines.

  • Iwo Jima

    The capture of Iwo Jima would provide emergency landing strips from bombing runs. U.S marines invaded Iwo Jima after naval and air bombardment. Japanese defenders dug bunkers in volcanic rocls.

    The Japanese started "suicide" attacks which was challenging to the Allied Forces. The japanese used caves and acient castles to avoid air strikes. The commanding generals died in the battle.

    In May the German troops put down their guns and surrendered. The German soldiers were kept from being taken prisoners. They had defeated the Nazis.

    Location: Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Empire of Japan
    The US wanted to force Japan's surrender to minimize casualties. The US needed the atomic bomb before Soviet Union. The two bombings killed at least 129,000/
