Japanese Invasion of China
Also known as the Sino-Japanese war. It was war between the Japanese and the Chinese troops that eventually led to the Marco Polo incident. It started out as conflict from China's side where they resisted expansion by the Japanese. The invasion had a negative impact on China more than Japan, where it made the Chinese loose many of their family traditions and turned them into nationalists. It also turned China's society upside down. -
German Invasion of Poland
Germans invaded by attacking its border and having control of its territory. Then they launched a Luftwaffe bomb and bombed the polish airfield. Also, Germans attacked the naval forces of Poland through the Baltic Sea. The goal of this invasion was to enslave the Slavs. The Germans also concluded that the invasion would bring them a better and wider living space. As a result of the invasion, the west and central parts of Poland went to the Nazi's and the eastern was for the Soviets. -
German Blitzkrieg
The Blitzkrieg was a tactic used by the Germans to help invade countries. It was launched on Poland in 1939 and then later used for the Netherlands, Belgium and France in 1940. The blitzkrieg was used because Germany felt like they're being restricted from gaining power by other European countries. They thought that the best was to quickly rise to power was by launching such thing that would cause a lot of destruction. This tactic left the Europeans trembling in fear and also left many homeless. -
Fall of Paris
Hitler launched a blitzkrieg on France breaking the line formed of hardened defenses. He also sent forces who failed to withdraw the attack and ordered them to evacuate the city. This fall occurred because Hitler wanted to seek revenge for Germany after the allies surrendered in WWI. This fall also lead to Italy attacking France and taking over part of it and caused the allied forces to spit into two. -
Operation Barbarossa
The operation was when Germany conquered Russia with the largest military operation in history. They attacked with more than 3 million Axis troops. Stalin wanted to conquer them because he wanted the land and resources, and wanted to use the Soviets as slaves. The confidence of the masses increased the pattern of defeats. It also lead to the USSR gaining great power and Stalin becoming very well known. -
Pearl Harbor
It is when Japan Launched a surprise attack on the US naval base which is known as Pearl Harbor. This mainly occurred because the US has set an embargo on the Japanese and restricted them from many things. But in the first lace, the embargo was set because Japan was increasing their power over South Pacific Islands. As a result, the bombing was one of the main reasons that lead to America's involvement. It also lead to the US launching two atomic bombs on Japan. -
Bataan Death March
Japan invaded the Philippines a day after bombing Pearl Harbor. A month after the invasion, Japan had already captured many of their major cities and forced American defenders to move away. When they were being forced to march miles away is what was known as the Bataan Death MarchThe US moved their forces to the Bataan Peninsula, and this is where Japan came and started invading and bombing them which lead to the US's surrender. 10,000 men died and who survived had to serve 40 months in prison. -
Manhattan Project
The Manhattan Project is when an order was signed by Roosevelt to create a secret project of developing nuclear weapons. This program was what developed the US atomic bomb. The project was supported by Britain and Canada. It was mainly created as an act for America to defend themselves during the war. This project was what created the atomic bomb dropped on Japan. The bombs created left a big negative impact where the radiation caused mutations and effected organisms. -
Battle of Midway
A battle that lasted till June 7. The battle wad almost entirely by aircraft where the US destroyed Japan's first-line carrier and ended their invasion on the pacific. The batle mainly happened because Japan constantly planned to take over the island and the bases near by that would interfere with the US. This battle ended up in a military struggle for both Japan and the US. -
Operation Gomorrah
It was an evening attack by the British where they dropped 2,000 tons on bombs on Germany to fight back for the civilians killed by Germany. It killed more than 30,000 Germans in Hamburg and destroyed 280,000 buildings. Hitler was also effected by this Operation where he realized defeat and refused to visit many cities that showed that the war is over. -
Allied Invasion of Italy
Allied forces launched this invasion on Italy. It was started by the British and then joined by the US. The goal was to throw a net across the Italian peninsula while he British chased the Germans into it from the south. Italy was taken out of the war, but then they switches sides from the allies to axis powers. So the Germans were able to take advantage of this and turned Italy into an occupied country. -
D-Day
D-day was the biggest invasion by sea in history. It was through the beaches of Normandy where they were able to break through the German defenses and get to Berlin. Planes and ships damaged defenses and made it easy to take control of main roads and bridges. It was an attack planed by many allies and their goal was to end war and minimize Germany's attacks. As a result, it forced Germany to fight fronts that they can't handle. In addition it caused Germany to surrender a year later. -
Battle of The Bulge
Hitler tried to divide the Allied armies in northwest Europe by using the blitzkrieg. Although they weren't ready, the US troops tried to stop Germany from winning. The American troops fought through hard conditions and showed fatal to Hitler's plan to seize. Days later, the US troops were facing Germany in a battle. It happened because of Germany launching a counterattack to cut through allied forces. Finally, the Germans lost lots of weapons and the Us faced over 100,000 casualties. -
Operation Thunderclap
It is also known as the bombing of Dresen, Germany. The Operation was started by the US and Britain where they joined forces and bombed the city. Since this happened after the war had ended, many thought it shouldn't have occurred. The British and the American's goal was to help soviets advance but it ended up demoralizing civilians and destroying homes of many innocents. -
Battle of Iowa Jima
Was the first attack from America to Japan. The Japanese soldiers had a hard time fighting and faced many difficulties that resulted in their loss. The US then got Iwa Jima. It happened because the US wanted a base near the Japanese so they chose Iwa Jima. The end result was that it effected Japan by locking down their bases and not being aware of incoming bombs. Also, since the US had control over the island, they were able to mark place to land bombers. -
Battle of Okinawa
It was the bloodiest battle of the Pacific war that is also known as operation iceberg. The Japanese had a violent defense when their beaches were attacked and had defense positions supporting each other. This battle occurred because the allied forces wanted to minimize Japans's power. The effects were that both sides lost many ships, air crafts and people. -
VE-Day
VE-Day, or victory over Europe day was when German troops finally surrendered to the Soviet Union. Germany's main concern was to be kept from being taken as prisoners. This happened because as the war came to an end, Germany became weaker and weaker until they were put in a position where they had to surrender. -
Potsdam Declaration
A declaration created by many leaders that resulted in Japan signing it and surrendering. It was created because Truman was informed of an atomic bomb that was created recently and that Germany would also soon use it on Japan, so he advised Japan to sign it and end this war. As a result, every part of Germany's industry that could've been used for military purposes was to be disassembled. -
Dropping the Atomic Bombs
The first atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima Japan by the US as an act of revenge for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It killed 90% of the population of Japan. Then on the 9th of August, another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan by the Us to make them surrender. About 35,000 were injured and many died from radiation. -
VJ-Day
Victory over Japan day happened at the end of WWII and was announced by president Truman that after 6 years of war, japan has finally surrendered. They surrendered by signing the Postdam declaration that declared the end of WWII. The main reason on why Japan decided to sign it and end the war was because of the atomic bombs dropped on them. Nit only did VJ-Day end the war in the Pacific, but it also officially ended World War two. -
